Lost in a dream

chapter three

I got home around 2 p.m. and turned on the radio. On the news they said Westlife were in Romania and that there were rumours about some two mad fans waiting for them at the airport. I smiled. They were asking themselves how was it possible for fans to find out the time and place of their arrival when even the press didn't know all that. Anyway, they welcomed the guys to our country and wished them to have a lovely time down here.

At almost 2:30 I got my first meal that day and I realised that I was really hungry. Yes, I was hungry, but extremely happy! My tape player was doing an excellent job playing their album and it was really loud. One of my neighbours who was trying to have a quiet Saturday afternoon was mad and he kept on hitting his ceiling and my floor with a broom stick, but nothing could keep me down. I ignored him and he finally stopped remembering the way he failed in making me stop the last times. He knew I was a musicoholic. I've always been actually. I took violin lessons for 8 years and piano lessons for 4. I've been singing in a choir for over 8 years so you can imagine that I find a real comfort in music. Basically, it's my life.

Back to Westlife now. The show was supposed to begin at 8 p.m. and they had as a supported act a Romanian boy band called Axxa. I don't like them too much. They seem real stupid even if two of them were once members of my chorus and they looked good. I wasn't interested in seeing them, my friend either, so when we got to the venue around 5:30 we promised to wait for the guys' van before getting inside. Slowly a big crowd formed around us and everybody was anxious to see Westlife. Some of them were just curious to see them, some of them were parents whose children were fans and stuff. Everybody was great. We kept on singing their songs and they were amazed that we knew all the lyrics and all the songs, even the ones that are b-sides of their singles. I told them what a great thing was to have access to the Internet and that it helped me a lot in finding stuffs about my boyz and their songs. They asked me for some great addresses and I gave them some.

At 7pm, the doors opened and everybody got inside, less us. We knew that the main stars were usually brought when people were inside. Axxa were there already, so when we saw the white van at around 8:15 we knew immediately who was inside. We started yelling their names and running towards the van. They recognised us right away and waved at us. I took some photos of them in the van, outside the van, wherever. They gave us hugs and kisses. But when I got to Shane I stopped. God he was so lovely! He said: "Hello Lee! How are you?" and gave me the best hug in the world. When we got to kissing each other I felt my face boiling and I imagined it had to be red. He kissed me on one cheek and when he got to the other one he kissed me real closed to the mouth which made the butterflies in my stomach feel like Godzilla walking through N.Y. If earlier I was red that was probably the moment when my head exploded, not literally though. It was the most wonderful moment of my life. He smiled and told me: "See you inside! Have a rapid time!". "Erm… thanx! You too!" I said softly. The other guys were already making jokes on the two of us. Then they left. We ran inside and we got to the first row with no problem.

It was 8:40 and Axxa were on the stage for 15 minutes now as we were told. Another 15 minutes and they said good-bye. We said thank God they were over! Lousy group! The crowd got real loud and the lights went down and some fire-works came out in front of the stage. Everybody was screaming the same word: "Westlife"!!!!!!! The next minute we could hear the first notes of If I Let You Go and the guys made their entrance. They were wearing black clothes and they were all so grand! Me and my friend had this big Irish flag and we were dancing and singing every word of the song and they spotted us real quickly. That’s when they smiled and waved at us. My eyes were all over Shane. He was looking at me and winking and pulling faces, he was fantastic! The show went on and at one point Shane said: "Well, now I have a song to dedicate to someone… So, who wants it?". Of course that every girl wanted it, but guess who got it? YEAH, it was me!!!!!! He said: "You, the girl in the front row!". I was jumping from one leg to another! "Please, help her come on the stage!", he said to some security guards.

Meanwhile he got off the stage for a second and so did the rest of the lads. I was like: "Hey guys! Where are you goin'? Don't leave me here all by myself!". They showed up immediately and they were having their right hands in the back. Shane came and asked me: "What's your name?". If he wanted to play, then I played too: "I'm Lee. How are you?". "Nice name. OK, Lee…, the song I'm dedicating to only you this evening is called Moments. Do you know it?" I was about to fall coz Moments was my favourite. I nodded affirmative trying to stop the tears that were forming in my eyes. And he began: "If I die tonight I'd go with no regrets/ If it's in your arms I know that I was blessed/ And if your eyes are the last thing that I see/ Then I know the beauty heaven holds for me". That's when all the guys took their right arm in front of them and everyone was carrying a rose, each in a different colour. Shane's was yellow. He offered it to me. Yellow roses have always been my favourite so you can imagine I almost fainted. The other guys threw theirs into the crowd. And Shane went on with the song, holding my hand: "But if I make it through, if I live to see the day/ If I'm with you, I'll know just what to say/ The truth be told, Lee you take my breath away / Every minute, every hour, every day". When the song ended I badly needed to sit down. But there was no chair around. Shane thanked me, I wasn't able to say a damn thing, I nodded again, he whispered in my ear: "See you later!" and then I left the stage. I tried to concentrate on what was happening in front of me and hardly I succeeded. I kept on singing all the songs until the show was over. They did an encore and then they left the stage forever. I couldn't believe it was over…
