Two days later Mark and Sandra came to pick us up and drive us to the airport. They just didn’t know it was going to be the two of us.

Knock knock

Bryan answered the door.

‘Hi Bry,’ Mark said. ‘Are you ready to go? Sandra’s waiting in the car.’

‘I’ll just see if Jen’s ready,’ Bryan said and stepped aside to let Mark in.

‘What? Is she here? Why?’

‘I thought she’d like the company on the flight to London so I offered her to stay here ‘till we were going over there.’

‘I don’t believe you!’ Mark shouted. He was angry now. ‘How dare you take advantage of her like this! She’s just broken up with her boyfriend as you might remember. She and your friend Kian were a couple not too long ago!’

‘Mark, calm down, nothing’s happened. She’s just been staying here, that’s all.’

‘Like I’d believe that.’ Mark said, a little calmer though.

‘You should, it’s the truth.’ Bryan said. ‘If you don’t believe me just ask Jen.’

‘I guess I have no choice but to believe you then. I’m going down to the car to wait instead. You can come down when you’re ready, just don’t be too long.’

‘Was that Mark?’ Jenny asked coming from the bathroom.

‘Yes it was, and we have to hurry up now or we’ll be late.’

At the airport

‘Jenny!’ Anna screamed and ran towards her. ‘What a surprise, I didn’t expect to see you here.’

‘Bry convinced me to stay for a couple of days so I didn’t have to fly home alone.’

‘So you stayed at his place?’ Anna asked even more surprised.

‘Yeah, he’s a real friend.’ Jenny answered and gave Bryan a smile.

Anna looked at her watch.

‘It’s still an hour ‘till the plane leaves. Wanna grab a cup of coffee with me in the cafeteria while we wait?’

‘Sure, see you later guys.’

We bought the coffee and sat down at one of the tables. Anna started asking Jenny about what really had been going on the last couple of days.

‘Nothing happened really. We’re just good friends. He was very nice to me, I guess I needed to be with someone even if I thought I’d be better off alone.’

‘So you’re not an item now or anything?’

‘Well…’ Jenny hesitated. ‘Nothing has happened yet but these past few days I’ve come to realise that I like Bryan. I like him allot.’

‘So what are you going to do about it that?’

‘I’m not going to do anything about it. I don’t think he’s interested in me. He was just being nice to me because of the brake up with Ki.’

In the meantime

‘Ki, can I talk to you a little?’ Bryan asked and took him aside from the others.

‘What?’ Kian asked a little impatient.

‘Are you OK with Jen sleeping at my place.’

‘Sure, why shouldn’t I be?’

‘I mean you two have just broken up and everything. I just wanted you to know that nothing happened. I just didn’t want her to have to be alone right now.’

‘I said it was all right.’ Kian said and went back to the other guys.

Later at the London airport

‘Bye all.’ Jenny said.

‘Where are you going?’ Anna asked.

‘I’m going to my flat.’

‘Can’t you come to the performance tonight?’

‘What performance?’

‘The guys are singing at this fundraiser thing, children’s hospital I think. Can’t you come and keep me company while they’re doing their thing?’

‘OK, since you ask so nicely. See you all tonight then.’

‘Bye.’

In Shane’s and Anna’s hotel room

‘Shane.’

‘Yes precious.’

‘If I tell you something about someone you know could you keep it a secret?’

‘Yeah.’ He said interested.

‘I don’t know...’

‘Come on honey, tell me.’ He said cuddling up to me.

‘You know Bryan…’

‘Yeah, what about him?’

‘Jen, she…’

‘She…’

‘Jenny has fallen for him.’

‘What?’

‘Jenny has fallen for Bryan.’

‘Does he know this?’

‘No, and you can’t tell him either. And besides, she doesn’t think he’s interested in her.’

At the fundraiser

‘Bry can I talk to you a little,’ Shane whispered while they got dressed.

‘Now?’

‘Yeah, it won’t take long.’

They went out in the hallway.

‘I just wondered, did anything happen between you and Jenny when she stayed with you in Dublin?’

‘No, why do you ask?’

‘Are you interested in her?’

Bryan blushes a little.

‘Ehh.’

He looked around.

‘Yeah, I am a little. Why do you ask? Has she said anything to you?’

‘No she hasn’t.’

‘Oh,’ Bryan said disappointed. ‘But why should she, she’s not interested in me anyway.’

Shane saw the pain in his friend's eyes and wanted to relieve the truth but he couldn’t brake his promise to his girlfriend not to say anything to Bry about Jen’s feelings.

‘Cheer up ya deutz, things may change sooner than you’ll know.’ Shane said and went back in to the dressing room. Bryan followed a bit confused.

After the concert Shane told me about what Bryan had said. We discussed the matter and came to the conclusion that it was better if the pair of them solved this matter themselves.

The next day everybody gathered at the hotel for breakfast, even Jenny came to join us.

‘It was a very good concert last night boys,’ Jenny said. ‘You sing so nice all of you.’

‘Thanks love.’ Nicky said. ‘It was fun that you could come and see us.’

‘Thank Anna, if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have come.’

‘Why?’

‘She invited me.’

‘Oh.’

After a while Shane said

‘I think I’m going to go up now. Are you coming?’

‘Yeah, I’m ready,’ Bryan said.

‘Couldn’t you keep Jenny company? She has some left.’

‘Sure, why not.’

Everybody left the table except for Jenny and Bryan. After a moment of silence.

‘Jen…’

‘Bry…’

They spoke at the same time.

‘You go first.’ Bryan said.

‘No you.’ Jenny said.

‘These last couple of days have been wonderful. I really like spending time with you.’ Bryan said.

‘I like being with you too.’

‘I know I shouldn’t be saying this since you just broke up with my friend but I like you allot, more than a friend.’

‘You do?’ Jenny said happily.

‘Yeah.’

‘That’s good because I like you more than a friend too.’

They looked at each other. Bryan got up from his chair and went to the other side of the table where Jenny sat. He bent down and kissed her, and this time the kiss was deep and filled with passion.

They went out in the lobby and at the same time the others came down the stairs.

‘We’re going out.’ Mark said. ‘do you want to join us?’

‘Sure.’ Bryan said.

When they were going out Anna whispered to Jenny.

‘Have you talked now?’

‘Yeah.’ Jenny whispered back.

‘And…’

‘Time will tell.’ Jenny said and took Bryan’s hand.
