chapter three
The next night, Kate is standing outside "The Point" getting absolutely freezing cold. When suddenly she hears a soft Irish accent say, "Kate, you're here." "Hi." She replied as she turned to see Kian, Nicky, Bryan, Mark and Shane walking towards her. "Of course I'm here, where did you think I'd go?" "Well, being a paramedic, we thought you might be a bit too busy to come out for a drink with five lads like us." Nicky replied.
"What do you mean like us?" She asked. "I just meant that we're famous and you might not enjoy it if we were swamped by fans whilst out in the pub that's all." " Right," She said a bit confused. "Ok, well shall we put our plates of meat to the ground, walk down the frog an' toad and see where it gets us?" "Excuse me?" Replied Bryan. " Ha ha ha, what I meant was shall we put our feet to the ground and walk down the road. Honestly." And they started walking.
"How's your head?" Kate asked Shane as they walked down the road, "Oh, it's fine." "Good." She replied. " Listen," Shane says, dropping back from the lads, "Have you ever considered a job change?" " Why?" " Well, we need a medical supervisor for our tour in a couple of months time, would you be interested?" "Wow." "What?" "Nothing. It's just, well, here I am, a 20-year-old paramedic just beginning my career and your asking me if I would be interested in a job I don't even know about." " I'll take that as a no then."
"No, don't, of course I'm interested." "Great. That's settled then." Shane say's as he enters the pub holding the door open for her. "I'll phone Louis and tell him the good news." "Ok, well, what do you want to drink?" Kate asks the lads while Shane is on his mobile to Louis. "Kate," "Yes?" She replied. "Louis wants to talk to you." "Oh, ok, thanks" She said as Shane handed her the phone. "Hello?" "Hi, is that Kate Michaels?"
"Speaking." "Hi, Louis Walsh here. Anyway, Shane tells me that you might be interested in being the medical supervisor on the lads forthcoming tour?" "Yes, that's right." "Right, well what are you qualifications?" "I'm an A grade paramedic." "Right, so you're one of the best as far as paramedics go, are you?" "Yes, That's right." "Ok, well the job's there if you want it." "Really?" She asked, surprised. "Yes". "Well, ok, um, I'll hand in my notice and get in touch with you, alright?" "Yeah, See ya." "Bye." She gave the phone back to Shane and said, " Well lads, you're looking at your new medical supervisor!" "Brilliant!" Mark replied.
Once the lads had got their drinks they all sat down and began to chat. "So Kate, tell us about yourself." Nicky said. "Well, what do you want to know?" Kate asked "Well just everything, really." Mark added. "Well, I originally come from the East End of London. I'm 20 years old, both my parents died in a car crash when I was sixteen." "Sorry about your parents," Nicky said. "That was why I moved to Dublin, to live with my Aunt. I used to attend a dance school near where I lived."
"You went to dancing school?" Bryan asked. "Yeah, I had just completed my elementary exam." "Elementary exam?" Bryan asked again. "Passing an elementary exam means that you are of the highest standard within ballet, and you can do point work, so to speak." "Oh, I get you now." Said Bryan. They continue to talk until about 10pm when Kate says, "Sorry guys, I need to go, I have to be up at 4.30am." "Oh well, it was nice meeting you. See ya soon, yeah?" Said Mark. "Yeah, see ya soon." And with that they leave, not to meet until a couple of weeks later...
