chapter four
"Kian! Where are you?" we jumped and we got to our feet.
"I think your brother just called me," he said.
"Yeah I heard, you better go before the neighbour call the police," I joked.
"Great idea," he replied.
"Hey man, you coming or not?" my brother came out into the garden and asked.
We burst out laughing and he demanded to know what we were laughing at and of course, we didn’t tell him. Before following my brother into the house, he turned and gave me a wink. Not knowing what to do, I just stood there like an idiot.
"Vin, why don’t you go up first, I’ve got something to say to Lindsay," I heard him say.
"First, it’s Mark and now you. What’s the matter with you guys?" My brother grumbled and went inside the house.
What was the something he wanted to tell me? Suddenly, I felt very scared, so scared that I was actually trembling.
"You’re still cold?" he asked. Obviously he could see me trembling. What else can I do but to nod my head? He then came closer to me and put his arms around me, whether it was to keep me warm or he already planned on doing it I did not know. All I knew was how wonderful it would be if this was going to last forever. I rested my head against his shoulders and sighed. We just stood there, in each other’s arms for a long time. Then he spoke, "Lindsay, I think I better go now, Vin is waiting for me," I looked at him and sighed again. I didn’t want to let him go but I had to, of course.
Once inside the house, Toni and I exchanged news about what happened and we were both very excited.
"Hey, maybe we could double-date!" she said. Just then, Kian and Mark came into the living room and Kian smiled at me. I smiled back at him and he sat down beside me.
"Vin abandoned us. Karen just called…" he said. Toni and I looked at him knowingly and we burst out laughing. Karen was my brother’s girlfriend.
After we had stopped laughing, I realised that Mark and Toni wasn’t with us anymore.
"Hey, what happened to Toni and Mark?" I asked, curious.
chapter five
He led me out to the garden and we peeped at them from behind a tree. They were kissing each other and feeling kind of weird, I went back inside with Kian following behind. We sat down on a sofa and before I could say anything, Kian moved closer to me and then it happened. I saw him coming closer and closer out of the corner of my eyes until I could feel his breath on my face. Then I felt his lips on my cheeks and I felt myself blushing furiously. He turned my face to look at him and leaned even closer. I closed my eyes and waited.
"Lind, can you do me a favour?" I heard my mother shouted. We both jumped guiltily and my mother appeared from upstairs. "Lind, can you wash the dishes? I’ve got to help your dad." I got up quickly and went to the kitchen, not wanting to face Kian. Kian in turn went up to my brother’s room. I guessed that he felt the same as me too. After washing the dishes, I went up to my room and lied on the bed, trying to get to sleep with Toni telling me about what happened between her and Mark. A few minutes later, she fell asleep and I tossed and turned and finally got to sleep.
"Arggghhhhh!!!" I heard myself scream and I sat up. A nightmare. I looked at my clock and it said two o’ clock. I looked to see if I had woken Toni but she was still sound asleep. As I couldn’t get back to sleep, I got out of bed and went downstairs for some warm milk. As I was switched off the kitchen light, I heard someone walking in.
"Kian, is that you?"
"Lindsay? What are you doing here in the middle of the night?" he asked.
"I had a nightmare and can’t get back to sleep, so I came down for a glass of warm milk. What about you?"
"I can’t get to sleep too," he replied. "What nightmare did you had?"
"I…I dreamt that you…you were…" I said. Upon remembering the nightmare, tears sprang to my eyes uncontrollably and I started crying.
chapter six
He was startled and tried to comfort me. He hugged me and said, "Hey, it’s all right. Please don’t cry," he begged. "Everything’s gonna be ok,"
I in turn put my arms around him and held him tightly, not wanting to let go.
I snuggled closer to him and cried even more. I was crying because of my dream. I dreamt that Kian had died in a car accident before I could tell him of the love I had for him. While I was crying, Kian just held me closer and tighter. After my tears died down, I lifted my face and looked at him.
Although we were in the dark, I could still make out his handsome features.
"Kian," I whispered. "I’m so scared. Please don’t leave me."
"I won’t. I’ll never leave you," he promised. As we looked at each other, my heart hammered against my rib cage in eagerness. He moved closer and bent down to kiss me on the lips. He deepened the kiss, sending sharp tingles up and down my spine. The kiss went on for some time, then he sent me back to my bedroom and said that it’s about time to have my beauty sleep. I obeyed him and lay down on the bed, then he left and went to my brother’s room. Before long, I fell asleep. When the sunlight streamed into my bedroom, I realised that I was alone in my room. I had just finished washing up as my mom shouted for me and my brother to go downstairs for breakfast.
Before I went downstairs, I peeped into my brother’s room and saw him still in bed, snoring. I went inside and tried to wake him up. When he wouldn’t wake up, I said, "Karen’s waiting for you," He immediately sat up and got dressed.
I laughed at him and went downstairs. My dad, Kian, Mark and Toni were already sitting at the table and Kian smiled at me when I sat down in front of him.
"Where’s Karen?" my brother asked, hurrying down the stairs.
"She’s not here yet," I answered and started laughing again. He stared at me angrily.
"Hey calm down, there she is." I said upon hearing the doorbell. He said bye to my parents and went out with Karen.
After breakfast, my parents went to work, Mark and Toni went to the movies and I was left alone in the house with Kian.
