chapter seven
‘Bry! Bryan! Wait!’ Sam screamed as she ran to catch him. Bryan stopped. He had avoided this for a couple of days now but he realised it wouldn’t hurt any less just because he pushed the final decision further in the future.
‘Hi.’ Sam said a little out of breath when she caught up with him.
‘Hi.’
‘I’ve been trying to get a hold of you for a couple of days now but you haven’t been at home when I’ve called and you haven’t seemed to get my messages either.’
‘I’ve been busy.’ He reminded himself to thank the lads for covering for him and saying that he wasn’t home when in fact he was.
‘I see.’ Sam said. ‘Do you have some free time now? Perhaps we could sneak in to the cinema and sit in the back row…’
‘I can’t, I still have some stuff to take care of. Why don’t you take Mark instead?’
‘Why would I want to take Mark?’ Sam asked surprised.
‘Don’t give me that shit!’ Bryan said. ‘I saw you two together the other day. But I’m not one who wants to get between two people that really want to be together even if I have to step aside. I wish you and Mark all the luck in the world. Bye Sam.’ He started to walk away. Sam just stood there and didn’t understand anything. She ran and grabbed Bryan's arm and he was forced to stop.
‘Let go of my arm.’ Bryan said. He wanted to get away from there as soon as possible so she wouldn’t see how upset he really was.
‘Can you please explain to me what exactly you’ve seen.’
‘I was looking for Mark and when he didn’t answer the door I went inside to wake him up. And then I saw you and him in bed together.’
Sam started laughing.
‘I’m glad it amuses you that I saw you two. It certainly saved you the trouble to break up with me. Funny thing though, I really thought that you were interested in me.’ Bryan tried to go but Sam was still holding on to his arm.
‘There’s nothing going on between Mark and me, we’re just good friends. Yes, it was because of him I hesitated in the beginning but I’m completely over him now. It’s you that I want Bry, honestly.’ She looked him deeply in the eyes and he could see that she wasn’t lying but he still had some doubts.
‘Why did you sleep together then?’
‘I needed someone to talk to about this thing between my sister and Shane.’
‘You could have talked to me.’ Bryan said. ‘And you still haven’t explained why you slept together.’
‘I needed someone who knows both their histories to sort things out for myself. And Bryan… Look me in the eye when I say this. I didn’t sleep with Mark.’
‘What do you call it then when two people lies in bed together sleeping?’
‘That was all it was, Bryan. We talked all night and finally we fell asleep on his bed. If you had looked a little closer you would’ve seen that we both had our clothes on.’
‘Why did you have your arms around each other then?’
‘I don’t know, Bry. I don’t know. But believe me, you are the one that I want.’
Bryan looked at her long and hard. Her explanation made sense and he couldn’t recall that he’d seen any of them naked, but then again he hadn’t really given himself the chance to. He let his heart decide over his doubting mind.
‘Do you think we still can catch that film?’ Bryan said and put his arm around her.
Cat’s at her Aunt’s when the doorbell rings. Cat looks out the peephole and on the other side is Shane. She remembers her talk with Sam when she had told her that Shane was innocent. She feels really ashamed for not believing him. She opens the door. Shane steps away from the door when he sees that it’s Cat who opens.
‘Are you going to punch me for coming here like this when you told me not to?’ he asks.
‘No, I’m not,’ Cat says smiling.
They go inside and take a seat on the sofa.
‘Sam called me a couple of hours ago and told me that you’re innocent,’ Cat said. But I guess you already know that.’
Shane doesn’t say anything, he just looks at her.
‘I’m really sorry Shane but I didn’t know what to believe.’
‘You should have trusted me,’ he said hurt. ‘But I guess I would have reacted the same way if the tables were turned.’
‘So am I forgiven?’ Cat asked and looked at him.
‘I don’t know,’ he said serious and looked back at her.
Suddenly Shane burst into laughter. Cat doesn’t understand why so she starts to feel very uneasy and sad.
‘What?’ Cat says and looks pleadingly at Shane whose laughing his heart out.
‘I would be the stupidest man on earth if I didn’t forgave you,’ he says when he’s cooled down a bit. ‘I don’t think I could live with myself.’
He reaches out for Cat and soon they’re in each other’s arms again.

As you know the year was a great success for them as a group. Sam and Bryan are still together even if the road hasn’t always been smooth. Cat and Shane are also together happier than ever. Nicky and Georgina are still together as well. Mark found a nice girl and he’s still Sam’s best friend. Kian satisfies himself (I’m only joking of course.) He’s still happy and single looking for the right girl, so who knows it might be you.
