West Moreton Country Music Festival

The Trophies

WEST MORETON COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOC INC AWARD

Originally, this trophy was presented at the Festival sponsored by the "Queensland Times" in 1991. Along with the decision not to proceed with the "QT" Awards, the trophy was generously given to WMCMA for competition at our Festival.
A perpetual award, (custody to be retained by the WMCMA) it will be awarded to the "Best Overall Performer" at each years West Moreton Festival.

GORDON PARSONS MEMORIAL TROPHY

Australian country music pioneer, the late "G P" was the star of the first major promotion by the WMCMA back in 1970....
Several years ago he consented to have his name used by the WMCMA in conjunction with the trophy for the winner of each years's "Bush Ballad". Both Male and Female Senior Entries are considered for this Trophy.
Following Gordon's sad passing in 1990, his widow Jean has given her permission for this award to be named the "GORDON PARSONS MEMORIAL TROPHY"

STAN COSTER PERPETUAL TROPHY

This trophy was instigated by Jim Laffin and made and donated by Reg McLeod and is Awarded to the Best "Junior or Juvenile (Aust) Bush Ballad" Sections.

THE HERSEE MEMORIAL TROPHY

As some of you may be aware Arnold and Gloria lost their lives in a motor accident during the course of our 1992 Festival (at which Gloria was a Judge). In memory of these extremely popular and active country music performers and administrators, a perpetual trophy was donated by Vic and Kay Glue for competition in the "Golden Oldies" Section at each years West Moreton Festival.

THE RON PETERS TROPHY

Ron Peters holds the honour of being the first local country music artist to record commercially (for Regal-Zonophone in 1951)
Although now retired, Ron is still very much part of our country music history and well remembered as one of our greatest yodellers.
He has consented to have his name inscribed on the trophy for the winner of the "Open Yodel" Section at each annual West Moreton Festival.

THE GRAHAM BURROWS MEMORIAL TROPHY

Graham was WMCMA's Secretary, for the period 1969-1993, and by most, considered to be an authority on Country Music in general. This trophy was generously donated by George Turner on behalf of the Campfire Country Music Club for the "Senior Male" Section

KEN & CILLA LAWRANCE MEMORIAL TROPHY

Presented in fond memory of two long serving WMCMA Members and Originators of our Festival concept, the late Ken and Cilla Lawrance. In recognition of their never failing efforts to encourage and advise aspiring performers, this trophy is awarded to any of the Festival's acts considered worthy by the Judging Panel.
