About West of Campus

I t all started when Oakley's father, Jedkamchorn, was featured on Femme for OPPY (Old People Playing Young), the Internet lessons for the older generation. Dad's mentioning Oakley working for Hollywood Stock Exchange (www.hsx.com) one too many times got Femme interested in doing a story on his precious little daughter and her work.

While Oakley was corresponding with Femme for the story, being a supportive father that he is, Khun Jed suggested that she should ask Femme if she could contribute some stories.

So Oakley emailed Femme's fearless editor, Cora Sukhyanga. And the rest is history.

We want the articles to serve as a guide for parents who are thinking about sending their children abroad, and for individuals who want to further their studies. Oakley probably has much different experiences than any new comers, being in the U.S. for over seven years, but there are sure to be elements in her stories that would be helpful.

West of Campus first article ran in The Nation issue for October 27, 2000. Oakley took a one-month hiatus in January 2002 to prepare for her wedding and to adjust to her married life, which marked an ending to West of Campus series. Nonetheless, Oakley still shares her news and views on her blog, OakMonster's Den.
