It is fun to read about us as kids and growing up -- brings back lots of memories.

When my Family moved out to the Ahtanum valley area, I was in the 2nd grade, but didn't attend Ahtanum Valley till the 4th grade. Steve Quesnell, my neighbor, was going to a little one room school on Ahtanum Road at that time, then I think I remember he went to Ahtanum that same year as I did.

Mrs. Johnson the 4th grade teacher, making candles for Christmas, I remember me fainting. She was so nice, one of my favorite teachers, until Mr. Brandt, 8th grade. 8th grade the best year I had in school.

So many wonderful memories. So many kids that made a difference to me, I was so scared coming into a new school, but I remember how so very nice everyone was to me.

(editor's note: I believe that one-room school was Armstrong School.)

Yes I agree with you about Steven Glore (that it's hard to think of him as a soldier, let alone dying in the war)... He was such a sweet and gentle boy. I remember first grade in Mrs. Haevner's class (at Ahtanum) and we had those cute little half moon tables. She put Steven, Jane Gray, Randy Reich and I together and I have very fond memories of that year and those people.

I remember a time on the play ground in the springtime when a bunch of us were trying to catch a flock of butterflies and Darrell Day caught one and I think by accident killed it. Steven had a little funeral for it by the side of that old 2 story school building and said the nicest prayer. I wish I could remember it!

Funny what touches us isn't it?

Good morning!
Peggy Herron sent me this (Remember This?) a couple months ago and I thought I'd send it on to you for the website if you'd like.
I know this is very long, but it sure brought a lot of forgotten memories back and I could almost smell where I was -- like lunches in the coat closet at school, the floor polish, the new shower room behind the gym, the library. Gosh, I could go on forever. Makes me want to sit down with a tape recorder!

(2006 NOTE: This page has now been combined with a similar recent list, as well as having additions that are meaningful to those of us who grew up in the West Valley area. Enjoy!)

Here's something (In 1959 They Said) you might like. I think this put us in 5th and 6th grades!
