Eternal Happiness - My Thoughts
Eternal Happiness is one of the best TVB shows I've watched, apart from
Face to Fate and
Ten Brothers. I remember this show as one of my ultimate favourites, and the songs (the theme and the subtheme) were absolutely nice too. My family even purchased the whole series (2 volumes) back then.
I can tell you something - the actors really work wonders in this show! Man Lai Kwan was cool, and she could make you laugh because she was so funny. She totally fit into her role. Raymond, as shown and proven time and time again that he is a extremely versatile actor, was the perfect dumb guy. His clueless expression at times were golden and they looked real as though he was really baffled, confused and bewildered. This show was staged to be a comedy and such, and it really rocketed headlines back then.
At that time, I was not an avid TVB fan, and I didn't know the actors and actresses very well. But, as reviews show, this cast had no big names - the main characters and such were relatively newbies, and some didn't act very well in other series, so everyone had their reservations about this show before they watched it. Seriously, no one can avoid falling in love with this perfect tuning of comedy, angst and adventure. Really.
The show starts off light-hearted, but then things get more serious and soon it becomes somewhat a trap of which they can't back out of, and which they must find a way to escape it.
Well, yes, this show, as any other show, has its bad points. Sometimes, there are some things that are
so unbelievable. Like:
- Raymond is sooo dumb; he really can't tell that Michelle is female.
- The bandit queen falls in love with Michelle just after a painting and some mushy words.
- The ending: It really doesn't suit tomboyish Michelle at all, with all her girly outfits and girly voices.
- Lai Kwan falls in love so easily with the unknown flute player. I mean, isn't she supposed to be talented and smart? So just why does she suddenly like this guy whom she doesn't even know who he is just like that?
- Lai Kwan falling out of love with Teet Muk Yee and falling in love with Siew Wah as fast as you can say L-O-V-E.
- Siew Wah's father keeps forcing his son to repay Yin Yuk's kindness when he is already engaged.
- The Empress had commited suicide and everyone knew she was dead. There were even rope burns on her neck. Well, if they had gone through some desperate life-saving episode of pushing needles into her and making herbal medicine and all that, I would understand if she awoke. But oh no, she just took a few seconds. With that, her eyelids begin to flutter and she is immediately "resurrected". Wow. T____T
- Lai Kwan refuses to marry Siew Wah because she doesn't want to share him, but after seeing that Yin Yuk's run away to somewhere else, she decides it's ok. It's like, wow, such a quick change in ideas.
- Where did Yin Yuk go? Hide in a drain? T____T Poor girl.
Yup, there are
some absurdities, but then, you could always ignore them. Anyway, this show rocks, and those absurdities are annoying but minor, so you don't really remember them after a while.
All in all, this show is great! The actors are very realistic in their acting, and you will just love the characters; it's like they are
made to be loved. =P Anyway, this is a definite must-watch. Go watch it!
