THANKSGIVING 2000 MINING TRIP
It was 6:00 am when we started out on foot with our packs, headed for the Narrows. The Narrows is a strip of the East Fork of the San Gabriell River about a mile long.  Like it's name it is a very narrow part of the river with cliffs that block out the sunlight all but maybe two or three hours a day.
We camp on a acent gravle bar that has four  old mines above it. Some of the gold that we find here has not travled very far.
Anyway, it was dark at 6;00 am when we started hiking. When it was time for our first river crossing we could see just fine. After about an hour we had to stop and take off our jackets and sweat shirts. Carrying a 50 pound pack is no walk in the park.
We couldn't keep up with Donny and he didn't know the way, so we made a couple of wrong turns that we had to retrace, but we made it to The Bridge To Nowhere at about 11:00 am. After you hike for five hours and then see this bridge leading nowhere it really makes me stop and think. They must of really pulled a lot of gold out of here to justify building this breathtaking bridge. It was built in 1936 and it looks like it cuold of been built yesterday.
