Within You Without You
by George Harrison
We were talking about
The space between us all
And the people who hide themselves
Behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth
Then it's far too late when they pass away
We were talking about
The love we all could share
When we find it
To try our best to hold it there
With our love, with our love
We could save the world
If they only knew
Try to realize it's all within yourself
No one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small
And life flows on within you and without you
We were talking about
The love that's gone so cold
And the people who
Gain the world and lose their soul
They don't know, they can't see
Are you one of them?
When you've seen beyond yourself
You may find peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come
When you see we're all one
And life flows on within you and without you
Meaning: This song acts as a kind of guidelines. It lists some things that are happening in reality, and the way it could be instead. The second paragraph (or stanza, whatever) kind of parallels another Beatles song "All You Need Is Love". A lot of wise people know this, the fact that words don't really explain much, and that it takes a really talented person to be able to explain something with words. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those really talented people, and I can't explain this song terribly well. Besides, I FEEL this song more than anything else. It kind of reminds me of the book Siddhartha in the line "Life flows on within you and without you" in which he means that no matter how different something is, it's still part of something and will always be, as illustrated by the "river". And if you haven't read the book, I guess that connection won't really do you much good.
Why? Because it's a good song... with nice lyrics and a cool sitar to go with it. It's one of the Beatles songs that isn't really simple and mediocre.
