Chapter 45
“Darlin’ the weather’s kinda shitty here so my connecting flight’s running a little behind schedule, but we should be boarding soon.” The sounds of cancellations, delayed boarding announcements and passenger pages could be heard in the background blaring from the intercom at the Dallas/Ft Worth airport.
She laughed, “So what else is new? I’ll be happy if I even get to see you tonight!” She was joking, of course, but knew that being stranded at DFW was not that uncommon when you opted for the last flight to Tulsa...especially on an evening with bad weather.
He groaned at her words. He’d managed to rearrange his schedule and move his flight up a few days to have some extra time with her and had left at the first possible opportunity. He didn’t need God and American Airlines thwarting his efforts now. He adjusted himself, getting comfortable in the leather seat where he waited in the Admirals Club Lounge. “I really can’t wait to see you, Genevieve. It’s been too long,” he murmured in a slow, sultry voice. “And I never got to say goodbye to you properly,” he added suggestively.
“I’ve missed you too, baby,” she played along breathily. She loved how he called her by her full name when he was feeling amorous. She exhaled deeply just imagining their reunion, which was scheduled just less than two hours from now. She heard him shift in his seat again, and the tell tale moan of his clothing in the chair led her to picture what he must be wearing. She knew he must really love her if he was willing to wear those pants to Oklahoma in the heat of September.
“Genevieve, honey, I’ve got a surprise for you.”
He’d lavished her with some incredible gifts in the short time they’d been together so she couldn’t imagine what gift could be any more enticing than some of the things he’d already given her. Whatever it was, she knew by the sound of his voice that it was going to be good. “I have a surprise for you myself.”
“God, darlin’, now you’ve got my attention. Is it gonna be good?”
“Oh yeah, baby, real good.”
His breathing sped up slightly. He figured she must be able to hear his heart pounding through the phone. “I just wish you were here with me now,” he spoke in a low quiet voice.
“It won’t be long, Johnny, and you’ll be here… with me. And I’ll kiss your lips… and run my fingers through your hair… and I’ll feel your warm… moist… breath on my skin as I reacquaint myself… with every inch of you… and you’ll…”
“Gen, darlin’, you’re killin’ me here. I’m sittin’ in the bar, not the men’s room.”
She couldn’t help it, she started giggling, thereby ending their wanton game. “Well, baby, now you’ve got something to look forward to!”
He laughed along with her. “You don’t wanna make it easy for me, do you? Now I have to sit through the flight agonizing over what you said to me.” He chuckled, “Hell, now I’ll probably get delayed even longer.”
“Or cancelled,” she teased.
“Shit, if they cancel this flight, I’m renting a fuckin’ car and drivin’ to see ya now!”
She loved it when she tormented him. “Good. I like a boy with determination.”
“I know what I want, and I intend to get it!” he flirted back. He started to say something else but stopped suddenly and listened to the announcements. “Gen! They’re boarding my flight. I’ve gotta go darlin’. See ya in, um,” he fumbled with his ticket, “75 minutes.”
“Ok, baby. I love you.”
“I love you, Gen.”
She went into the closet and pulled out the leather dress and high heels. Sure, she’d stand out wearing something like that to the small local airport, but she didn’t think she’d even notice another human being besides him at this point, so it really didn’t matter to her. She laid it out on her bed and went back to doing her hair and makeup. She took her time; beauty wasn’t something to be rushed. As she was putting the finishing touches on her lipstick, the phone rang. A panicked female voice was on the other end.
“Oh my God! Gen…I’m so sorry!”
