Sequel to Adventure 001
". . . Soon, Rhinesmith would ditch the truck and flee again.

The suspect was lost.

Mission failure."

. . . Or so it was thought.

Agent Bionic dodged around the squad cars as they swerved to avoid a crash. He was close to the truck, which was now far down the street. He passed Agent Johnson’s car as the truck turned a distant corner.

Over his earpiece inside his helmet, Bionic heard Agent Johnson say, “Agent Bionic, pursue perpetrator at all costs. He’s headed down a side street off of Hollow --”

Bionic switched his earpiece off while driving agilely down the street. He soon made it to where the truck turned and continued to follow it into a residential neighborhood. By this time, the occupants of the truck had drawn submachine guns and fired out of the open rear at Bionic. The agent managed to evade most of them, but a few bullets hit him in the shoulder and leg. He could deal.

By this time, a squad car had managed to block off the road ahead, so the truck would either have to make a sharp turn or stop. Its driver apparently opted for the former, and it turned down an alley. Bionic knew he had it trapped now.

He drove his Harley swiftly into the alley and drew his Berreta. Still having to deal with the machine guns firing at him, Bionic decided to hold off on firing and concentrate on dodging.

Suddenly, the truck lurched to a halt. The occupants of the truck stopped firing and jumped out before Bionic caught up. The agent saw them run into an open garage.

Now there were sirens blaring all around him and a helicopter was in the air. The police must have had the place surrounded, so Bionic didn’t have much to worry about. As he reached the garage, he jumped off his bike and fired a few shots blindly into the structure. The shots were not returned. As a few SWAT team members moved in near him, Bionic carefully walked into the garage.

No one was in it. No cars or equipment of any sort were in it either. It was a completely empty, one-room building. The only other exit was a door on the opposite side leading to a yard, but it was closed.

Bionic signaled the chopper to see if it had spotted anyone fleeing the scene. Nothing had been spotted. The pilot said he saw the terrorists enter the garage after they got off the truck, but he didn’t see them come out. It seemed they had simply disappeared.

***

A couple days later, after a full investigation of the garage and the area around it was carried out, no answers had come. Footprint scans had shown that three sets of boots had ran into the room, but none of the three had exited. It certainly was a mystery. One that even Frink couldn’t answer.

And that, friends, is a mystery to be reckoned with.

You can imagine the paperwork.
