“Soon enough, they were at the Chicago city limits . . .” “Look at that. Made it to Chicago without even sleeping. Frink, you’re quite the little trooper,” said Agent Bionic mockingly, even though he was even tiring. It was like jet lag without the jet. Most of the other agents on the bus were sleeping. Agent Andy was the only Team 13 member that was out, however. Johnson and Marrari were still talking attentively about recent activists and the rise in occultist threats. Bionic was jeering at Frink, and Frink tried to ignore him and play with his own PDA. The coach bus took an exit ramp before even reaching the downtown area. Apparently, the driver preferred city streets to highways. The driver also apparently preferred to take side streets as she turned down a road off of Central Avenue. Now the bus was nearing the Projects. This was far from the upscale hotel at which the agents were supposed to stay, so Agent Bionic inquired about this. “Hey, lady! We’re in the slums. We’re supposed to be near the Sears Tower, aren’t we?” In response, the operator of the vehicle drove the coach into a dilapidated parking garage. The ceiling was too close for the bus to make clearance, so it scraped the roof. This woke the sleeping agents. “What the hell is going on here?” one asked as the bus halted. The driver pulled the keys out of the ignition and stepped out of the coach. Agent Johnson and Marrari rose to follow her, but several shots rang out from several direction. The bullets shattered the glass and one hit Marrari. Someone yelled “Shit!” and every agent seemed to draw his gun. The a small metallic object plopped into the bus from an shattered window. Now someone yelled “Bomb! Everybody get down!” The object sprayed out a noxious gas. His vision crawling in, Marrari saw Agent Johnson and Bionic fight against the fumes. Both of those agents were able to jump out of the windows. But they were the only ones. The last thing Marrari saw were several masked and armed men walk onto the bus. Then all was dark. *** Agent Bionic pulled out his gun before he was halfway out the window. He rolled on the ground when he finished his jump and fired it randomly. At least keep them distracted, he thought. Agent Johnson was kneeling next to Bionic. He had his Berreta drawn as well. Luckily, they were on the side of the bus opposite the exit door, so they didn’t have any insurgents to deal with. The exit was also in clear sight, although the garage door was closing. Both agents ran to it without looking back. They knew they couldn’t fight off an unknown number of assaulters that had access to grenades. Johnson deftly rolled underneath the garage door when he reached it and Bionic burst right though the thin metal door. It hurt nonetheless. Once outside the two agents continued to run. Johnson pulled out his cell phone and called for help. Then the bullets flew at the pair of runners. The terrorists had already caught up. Johnson pulled Bionic down an alley, waking up a few homeless people as they ran passed. Reaching the other side, the agents came across a large rally. About a hundred ragged-looking people were listening to a lone speaker in this cement lot. The banner above the orator read, “BETTER WAGES, MORE JOBS OR FIGHT!” Agent Johnson then realized why headquarters decided to hold an agent meeting in Chicago: to quell possible rioters. Ut that wasn’t their main concern at the moment. They had to blend into the crowd and find help. Two-and-a-half teams of agents had just been kidnaped. That was an emergency. These rioters could wait. *** The anarchist was busy organizing an armed protest down central avenue when he received word from Ramo. Most of the agent’s coach buses had been intercepted as ordered. Now the feds wouldn’t be a threat. Except for the FBI and CIA. But at least the bureau that had the most agents in this area would be rendered impotent. Plus he now had hostages. This revolution would start tomorrow right here in the Windy City. And nothing could stop it. *** Agent Bionic spotted a squad car and several police officers attempting to quell the protesters. He nudged Agent Johnson and pointed. The two then ran to the police and flashed their badges. “Special Agents Johnson and Bionic, Team Thirteen,” Johnson formally informed. He then told the police of the situation. Just then, several protesters threw stones at the squad car. This prompted the officers to draw their weapons and react to the immediate situation. That action prompted more protesters to pick up stones and other items and throw them. This was going to become a hostile situation very quickly. Agent Johnson spotted the insurgents following them in the crowd and ordered the police to holster their guns and retreat. The three policemen and two agents all squeezed into the squad car and pulled out as quickly as possible. The driver contacted the station on the car radio. Agent Johnson contacted the local headquarters for Team 11, the Chicago unit. He was informed that protesters were showing up all over the city. It looked like a revolt was being planned. *** At the district police station, the remaining agents spoke with the local police force and the mayor of Chicago. Among the remaining agents were twelve teams flown in from New England, Team 11, Agents Johnson and Bionic, and the leaders and senior members of the agency. The mayor informed the agents that the resident radical anarchist had inspired the poor and destitute of Chicago to rise up and attempt to strike. No one thought the protesters would be very violent until the agents were kidnaped. As a result, federal troops and the FBI still needed to be contacted and flown in. The police had not been contacted by the abductors as of yet, so they could not create a very functional plan. All anyone could do was wait. Home Adventure Archive |
