Adventure 031 Sequel

Inside the warehouse, Agent Andy surveyed the corpses of several dead government agents and looked for any telltale signs of a supernatural attack. One policeman’s corpse had two tiny bleeding holes on his neck. Andy made a “V” symbol with his fingers toward Agent Johnson. Johnson then looked for clues identifying the group of vampires.

Meanwhile, Agent Bionic loaded a customized water gun with holy water and pumped it, much to the confusion of several crime scene investigators. Bionic grinned and pointed it at one of the men, causing the investigator to flinch and reach for his gun. Johnson shortly chastised Bionic and ordered him to search the crates of drugs.

Agent Andy listened in to the conversations of the investigators, searching for clues. He listened candidly to a conversation between two male officers with cameras as they pictured the bodies.

“... tough bastards, according to the radio calls,” one explained half-attentively as he knelt for a closer shot.

“No, really? I thought the backup they begged for was just for fun.” the other mockingly replied as he adjusted a bullet marker labeled “22.”

The other, not sensing the sarcasm, explained, “Yeah, they were tough. You see any of their corpses? And these are trained government agents shooting at them.” After a pause, he asked, “So, you find any gang markers yet? You know, to identify who did this?”

The man not taking pictures answered, “No.” Then he leaned closer to the photographer and added, “. . . but we did find a few bags of blood – human, that is – in the fridge in the office room.” Then the investigator saw Andy and shut up.

Andy approached the investigators and bluntly offered a bribe. “I will give both of you a thousand dollars to not tell anyone else what you just discussed.” The two eagerly accepted when Andy pulled out two wads of bills.

Johnson then came in over his earpiece. “Agent Andy, your presence is required in the western storage room.” Andy was on his way before the ending click sounded.

“Agent Harris, could explain to us how you managed to evade the criminals?” Johnson asked a tattered and harried FBI agent in a strictly business voice.

The man shook his head and answered. “I just saw this box and I jumped in. It was the only way to lose those . . . those things.” Agent Andy arrived on the scene in that moment.

“And you claim that they just ‘flew’ through that set of windows.” Johnson gestured toward a set of near-ceiling shattered windows.

Harris nodded, sensing the disbelief.. He looked hopefully at the new arrival, but the black-suited Agent Andy merely nodded at Johnson. The two black-suited agents then walked out of earshot of the FBI man.

“We have been unable to procure anything useful from him,” Johnson explained to Andy, carefully eyeing the distant FBI agent. I doubt he has any understanding of the situation. The Bureau may be able to recruit him, but he appears to be too old to be able to grasp the concept of the existence of the supernatural.” Andy nodded and gazed at the hardened agent by the crate. Perhaps the Bureau could use his years of experience at the offices in Bangor, Maine.

The sniper on the old factory across the street saw his chance when the two black-suited agents walked away from the target. The assassin didn’t question the gift, he merely steadied his aim and fired through the shattered windows. In an instant, he had wiped out the last substantial evidence of the entire vampire presence here.

His employers would be pleased.

Johnson and Andy didn’t hear the silenced shot. They only reacted when they heard the thump of the body falling to the ground. They turned around to see the death of their only link to the culprits behind the massacre.

They had to cover this up.

Johnson signaled Andy, who quickly found a body-sized, empty crate. Johnson, with all his might, lifted the corpse off the ground and dumped it into Andy’s newfound box. The two agents called for Bionic and put a lid on the crate.

Once Bionic arrived, Johnson ordered him to take the container outside and toss it into a hobo’s bonfire.

Bionic gave Andy a knowing glance that said, “Someone’s doing something illegal.” Then he carried the heavy box outside. By the time a few mundane investigators arrived, the amount of firewood available to several bums had grown tremendously.

Johnson gave his official explanation. He told investigators that a Communist splinter cell was trafficking drugs for the Motherland. They happened to be testing out a new, ultra-sleek, full-body bulletproof vest.

When questioned about the unusual features of the murderers, Johnson explained that they were Communists and were, by design, freaks.
