HOLIDAY GREETINGS 2001 From the Whatley Family The three of us—Larry, Marion, and Chris—wish for you and for all of those who are dear to you the happiest of holiday seasons and the most prosperous New Year ever! This greeting also brings with it a copy of our Holiday Greetings from last year. That particular letter was written on time, but the pressures of moving described therein (and an unanticipated software problem with the mailing labels) caused it not to be mailed during the season. Our unstated goal has always been to get it out before Lent (never mind by the end of the Christmas season), and last year was an exception even to that goal. Sigh! These two letters will bring you up to date on us for the past three years. The anticipated moves did take place as scheduled. Larry and Marion are now back in our home on Laurel Lane, and Chris is living in the little house on Turkey Creek Road, where he (and the four family cats, referred to by Marion as “four Zen masters”) enjoy the pastoral setting, nestled close to the Pisgah National Forest. There aren’t quite as many boxes now, and we are all happier and more content than ever! Chris has continued to work as a surveyor’s assistant, but as this year draws to a close, so does that particular job (and chapter of his life). His employer is moving on to a different kind of enterprise, and Chris will be doing something different as well, although that is undecided at the moment. He rather likes the idea of working inside now, after five years of braving all kinds of weather in the great outdoors. He is also looking forward to spending more time with a young lady named Mandy. Marion is still working as a nurse. She works part-time at two hospitals, but has enough control of her schedule that she is not as restricted in her time off as she once was. That was really helpful last July when she and Larry, plus two other retired Brevard College music department colleagues, traveled to the western U.S., seeing the sights and doing lots of “touristy” things. She also has time to do lots of reading (a real history buff!). Larry is now in his first full year of retirement from Brevard College, this year electing to teach no courses as an adjunct faculty member. This is NOT to say that he is retired from life, however; in fact, he is now wondering how he ever found time to teach all of those theory courses. He is currently taking courses and studying for the first of several exams to become a certified web master, and developing these and other computer skills has captured his interest and energy in a big way. He has never chosen to view life exclusively through five parallel, horizontal lines, and the potential for the future is very exciting (and demanding)! You may view his personal site, which will be up and running early next year with lots of different kinds of information, at http://www.oocities.org/whatleygl Happy Holidays!! Let us hear from you!!
