The Truth
by Galan Mayas
When you're with me and you touch me my heart goes flyin'.
When you're gone and I'm alone all that keeps me alive is death defyin'.
When you're sad, unsure, and feel like cryin',
And when you look at me with those big brown eyes I feel like dyin'.
When I'm happy and think things couldn't be better, there you are.
I know deep inside that we could go far.
And I know if I don't, soon, let down my guard and cut that last bar…
The future will come to take me away forever on a bus…or in a beat up car.
Tie me down to give me strength against the storm and the rain.
I am like a fly buzzing round a horse’s mane
’Cause I have taught myself to desensitize and to feel no pain.
Even my shield won’t protect me from my own
whip, made of sugar cane.
What is my biggest fault?
To tell myself, and then to believe in a lie.
But honestly, if I lied to you or to myself, I
could not easily hold back the urge to cry.
The truth: three or so weeks ago I
let down my guard and took a hit; it was
sharp and right in the eye.
The truth now. Not what you want to hear.
But what I say I can't deny:
That thick or thin, black or white, I'll
remain confident and indestructible,
however, not! Impenetrable. And I think and I
feel that you and I share that special tie:
Love.
And the truth is, on my honor,
I love you.
