What Wave Issue 17

Published in May 1989 and back to another cassette compilation, this one called What's All the Fuzz About. This time we had the tape professionally made, as opposed to borrowing friends tape decks and having to hear the tape about a million times. This method was much more expensive, and for the money the sound quality wasn't any better, although it did save what little sanity we had left. Great cover art by artist Darren Merinuk, who since then has done tons of zine covers, comix, posters, record/CD sleeves and many other projects.

Right around this time we collaborated with Og records to release the Mister Garager's Neighbourhood compilation LP. For the full detail of this project click on:

Only one interview this time, with Lucky 7. We were trying to get away from the interview format and write informative, yet interesting articles on bands we dug. Articles on Flying Squad, pigshit, Mr Garager's Neighbourhood (shameless plugs), Del Lords, rock'n'rasslin connection, Luke and the Apostles, The Stand, Canadian rockabilly, Progressive Minstrels, Steve Earle, Surf Trio, power pop, East German scene, The Beatpack, Thanes, Dead Moon, Pink Slip Daddy, World of Distortion, The Jonahs, Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet (click here for article: http://shadowy.brainiac.com/web-words-whatwave89.htm ), The Barons and a pile of other stuff. This one is still in print so email us for details.
