In April 1998, we went with N'Gone Diouf to her village, N'diayene - Sinokh (about 7 km from Khombol which is on the
road between Thies and Bambey) for Tabaski. Tabaski is one of the high holidays in
Islam and involves sacrificing a sheep or goat.
Let me just tell you now, DO NOT LEAVE DAKAR ON THE DAY OF TABASKI! We spent four
hours just getting to Rufisque (about 15 kms. from downtown Dakar.) Aside from the
horrendous traffic jam, partly due to every stopping to pick up a goat or sheep on their
way to the village, we had a great time in N'Gone's village.
On this page you will also find some photos of our daily life in Dakar, including a great
photo of the Goree slave house.
