Kian
Like Shane, Ki's also from a big family. His family and him have always
lived in the same house all his life which is about a 10 min walk from
Sligo.

Kian has got 6 brothers and sisters. The youngest is Colm who is only
four.
Then there is Marielle who is thirteen and in secondary school. Then
its
Kian and after him it's Tom who is 22. Next there's Fenella who is 24
and
then Gavin, 28 and finally Viv, 30. Kian is close with all his brothers
and
sisters but Fenella is his closest sister and Tom his closest brother
simply
because they were in the same age group when growing up. He shared a
room
with Tom when his was little and they use to fight like mad and kill
each
other. But they were still best mates and went to loads of parties
together
when they were older. He also has a cousin Gillian, who is like a
sister to
Kian and they grew up together and hung around the same crowd of
friends
when growing up.

When he was 4, Kian entered his first Talent Show, which is called a
feis in
Irish. They're a big tradition there and it's where kids get to perform
anything they want: poetry reading, singing, dancing, playing an
instrument;
you can do just about anything. At his first one he recited a poem
called
'Whispers' at a hotel in Sligo. Kian won and got a little trophy That
was
when it all started and he went on to do music, acting, dancing and
then
bands.

Kian is really musical and stated playing Piano when he was 9. His
eldest
brother Gavin was a part-time piano teacher so he gave him lessons and
he
took him up to grade four. But Kian wasn't really 100% into it because
it
was classical music and he thought that was pretty boring. He was
really
into Rock bands and stuff so he started playing Guitar and taught
himself
before he had proper lessons. By the time he was 14 he could play tunes
by
ear if he heard them on the radio, then he started learning chords and
got
involved in rock bands. Kian was surrounded by music throughout his
childhood and he can play about 10 or 12 instruments now.

If Kian wasn't playing music, he was always busy doing something else
and he
never had a spare night when he was growing up. During the week after
school
he would have jazz and tap dancing lessons, clarinet lessons, piano
classes,
guitar, hurling or basketball, then football training and drama
classes. At
the weekends he played footy matches and he also crammed in anything
else
that he could!

From when Kian was 10 he dreamed of being a rock star. He used to love
bands
like Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden and Bon Jovi, and was always practising
loud
guitar solos and jamming with his mates. Him and 3 other guys formed a
band,
There first name was Scrod but they went through loads of other various
names. They became Pyromania for a while then Hallucination. That was
there
last name before they split up.

Kian started doing Musicals at the Hawkswell Theatre and at school. He
did
shows like The Pajama game, West side story, Annie get your gun and
Oliver.
Grease was the big show for him and that's were he got to know Shane
and
Mark. Shane didn't think much of the rock stuff that Kian was doing and
Kian
remembers thinking it was daft to try and do a 'boy band'. The big
turning
point came when he saw what Take That were doing. He use to love there
songs
and use to dream about being on stage like them. It really opened his
mind
and especially when Boyzone and Backstreet boys came along and he loved
there style and that's when he thought 'A boy band? Yeah, That's for
me'
