Legal status/date of creation

Common Initiative Group created on June 12, 2003 with registration number NW/GP/30/30/7752 of 8th September 2003 at Bamenda. It is governed by the provisions of Law No. 92/006 of 14th August, 1992 and its decree of implementation No. 92/455/PM of 23rd November, 1992.

Mission

Our mission is to improve the well-being of farming-dependent communities, reduce poverty and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources through the extension of innovative farming technologies.

The main focus of the organization is agricultural extension and environmental protection. Our agricultural extension activities aim at empowering women who constitute the backbone of agricultural labour force to use sustainable agricultural techniques that enable them to get higher crop yields and at the same time protect their environment for posterity.

Objectives

The main objective of the association is to promote the principles of conservation agriculture amongst small-scale farmers for increased food production, biodiversity conservation and livelihood improvement.

Services/Areas of expertise

CEPROCA is run by a multidisciplinary team of volunteers. We have capacity in:

  1. Plant production: we aim at reversing the trend of soil degradation prevalent amongst small scale farmers not just using conservation agriculture techniques but also through the dissemination of low external input sustainable agriculture techniques.

  2. Animal production including aquaculture. We deal mostly with small ruminants, aquaculture and the improvement of local poultry.

  3. Agro forestry, marketing and tree nursery development for water catchment protection and reforestation activities
  4. We also train our farmers on income generating activities like market gardening, horticulture and bee keeping. In addition we offer services in crop valuation.

WE TAKE TIME AFTER EACH SESSION WITH OUR FARMERS TO SENSITIZE THEM ON HIV/AIDS.

Membership:

Our team is made up of farmers and professionals in the field of community development who are willing to work on voluntary bases. As of date the association is run by 13 volunteers.

Set up of the organization:

CEPROCA is headed by a delegate followed by a project co-ordinator or supervisor who oversees the activities of the organization's four departments. There is a board of trustees independent of the organization that keeps an eye on the organization's activities.

Funding:

Membership dues, donations and fundraising through proposal writing.

Some Achievements:

  • Sensitization of over 1000 farmers on the environmental, economic and ecological benefits of conservation agriculture
  • Establishment of 30 demonstrations plots on the practice of conservation agriculture
  • Inventory of abandoned fish farms in the Bui Highlands is ongoing in view of revamping the fish farming sector.
  • Assisted some farmers to improve their local poultry through cross breeding.
  • Assisted two of our target communities in the preparation of funding proposals for submission to embassies in Yaoundé-Cameroon.
