Watershed Task Group

The watershed Task Group (WTG), is a non-governmental organisation, founded in 1995 and legalized in 1997 .WTG has as goal to ensure the wise use, conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity and natural resources.

The main areas of intervention include:

  • Watershed Management & Development,
  • Wetland Management & Restoration,
  • Community Forestry,
  • Environmental Education,
  • Environmental Impact Assessment,
  • Research on wildlife with focus on the great apes.

WTG has worked with the Swiss Association for International Cooperation, Bird life International (through the Bamenda Highlands Forest Project), Living Earth Foundation Cameroon Programme from 1997. Currently (2005/2006) WTG will be leading a consortium of NGOs to execute an IUCN-NC/SWP project on the sustainable use and management of the Douala Estuary and Lake Ossa (potential Ramsar sites) wetland resources, in Cameroon.

WTG is a member of the Western Highlands Nature Conservation Network (WHINCONET), Cameroon, and has formed a synergy with organisations such as Environmental Defence and Consumer Interest Forum, Centre for Biodiversity Conservation (CBC), Environment and Rural Development Foundation (ERUDEF) and Cameroom Wildlife Conservation Society (CWCS).

WTG brings together an impressive multidisciplinary team that includes wetland and forest managers, environmental scientists, ecologists, life scientists, economists, sociologists, agronomists and tourism and gender experts who seek to solve conservation problems in an interdisciplinary and integrated manner.
