Please
Rescue Me
By
Lady
As I wait in my cell, nose between my paws on the cold hard concrete,
I hear the sound of foot steps moving slowly toward me. I look up and see gentle eyes and hear a soft voice. Your eyes meet mine, and a
small spark of hope touches my heart. I risk wagging just the tip of my tail, as I look toward you,
feeling a deep longing for something
I've never known and can't quite explain.
You kneel next to my cell door, and tell me you are taking me home, away
from this place called an animal shelter.
Yet I am too scared to hope or trust. I cower in your bathroom, though nothing hurts me. You bring me
food, and I hide my head. You tell me it takes time to learn to enjoy being loved. Soon the other
dogs and small creatures called cats play with me. Maybe I can start to wag more than the tip of my tail? I learn slowly not to fear one
new thing each day.
I learn a little bit of trust each day. I will love you more than anything and protect you with my life.
You are my rescuer.
