"Wha.. Happ..end?" Alexis was trying hard to speak but she was only able to get out one syllable for every breath. She looked frightened and it tore at Jax's heart to see her like this.
"Alexis, relax. Don't try to talk. You have a punctured lung. You're gonna be okay though. You're gonna be okay."
Alexis took a deep breath, so that she could get words out. "They took...the papers." She coughed slightly and the pain it caused stopped her words.
"I know, Lex. It's okay. As long as you're okay, nothing else matters."
"There were 2 of them .... They had masks ... one hit me on the head with ... something... I fell ... then one of them..... stepped down on my chest... That's all I remember. I shouldn't have gone inside... I saw the mess. but I had to see what they'd gotten. I didn't know they were still there."
Jax was saddened at the extent of what she'd been through. "Your okay Alexis, your okay now."
"I have copies." Alexis said to Jax ignoring that he was trying to shush her.
"Copies?" Jax asked wondering what she was talking about.
"Copies of the family papers that they took.... We hadn't even scratched the surface. of those papers you ... so cleverly liberated from Helena... I made copies to study them at work ... but I was always so busy."
"Alexis, they are going to think you know everything in those papers. You are going to be a target." Jax was getting more and more worried.
"Then we better figure out what's in them and fast." Alexis looked at Jax's stunned face. "Wouldn't want to die for nothing?" She said her humor very much still intact.
"You'll never learn."
"I'm past letting 'them' teach me a lesson ... I'm ready to teach them." Alexis smiled brightly. The bandage on her face hiding the sparkle in her eye that Jax was so used to seeing.
"Well, right now, you aren't going to teach anybody anything. You are going to focus on getting better."
The Plastic Surgeon entered and introduced himself to Alexis and Jax. "We are going to take you up to the surgical floor for your stitches on your face. We'll explain everything to you there, while we are working on you." Alexis grabbed Jax's hand, feeling she hadn't been told something important. "Your husband will have to stay here. After that you will go for a CT Scan to make sure you are out of danger. You'll then be assigned to a room." The doctor turned to Jax. "We'll let you know as soon as she settled in. This will take quite awhile."
"Go home." Alexis said. "Rest, I'll be okay." Jax didn't say a word. He raised his eyebrows in a silent communication that was a mix between 'not on your life' and 'yeah right.' She recanted. "I'll see you when there done with me." He smiled. When did it get to the point when they could speak without words? That train of thought carried him out the door and to a chair.
Bobbie came to him. "I know I may have been overstepping, but before I could talk myself out of it, I called your Dad and Lady Jane." Jax didn't know what to think about that, deep down he wanted his parents here, but they made things difficult sometimes and they didn't need to be traipsing down here in the middle of the night. He knew that his mother would kill him if he kept this from her.
Bobbie ignored his look. "They are ." Jax joined in "on their way" They laughed.
"They were gonna catch the first flight out. I told them that she's going to be okay, but Jane was adamant about seeing for themselves. They see her as a daughter."
"They see you that way too, Bobbie." Jax said pulling her in for a hug.
"I'll let you know when they get Alexis settled, it'll take awhile. The stitches they are going to put in her face are very small and very close together."
Her face. Jax knew she'd be upset about him not telling her about her face, but he really hadn't had time. Stubborn Alexis, not caring that she could barely breathe, wanting to tell him every little detail of what happened 'Does she ever snap out of her lawyer mode?' He knew she did, Popcorn Feasts were a prime example. He finally let the relief of her assured recovery hit him and he placed his face in his hands. 'Thank God she's gonna be okay' he said to himself. A quick thought came to his mind that he should call Ned, but it was interrupted by the arrival of Mac.
Mac saw Jax sitting in the chair his face in his hands. "Jax?"
Jax looked up. "Mac, I'm sorry, she can't answer any questions right now, she's having some stitches done, and then they are gonna take her for some tests and she can't say much without getting really tired. You'll have to come back in the morning to question her. She's not up to it tonight. I can tell you what little she told me, but that's about it."
Mac sat down next to Jax and said, "Let's start over. Hi Jax. How's Alexis? How are you? Is there anything I can do for you?"
Jax smiled. "Hi Mac, I'm okay besides worried about Alexis. They seem to think that she'll be okay. The bastards stepped on her chest and cracked a few of her ribs which seems to have punctured her lung. They have a tube in her chest. She was hit on the head with something that cut her face. She'll probably have to have plastic surgery after the cut heals to get rid of a scar that will run the across her hairline and down the side of her face."
"I'm sorry man. If there is anything I can do, let me know." Mac said
"Thanks."
"Now, tell me what you know." Mac said getting down to business.
Jax laughed. 'So much for concerned Mac' he thought to himself as he started to fill him in on SOME of the details.
******************************************************** 'Why am I here? What did I come here for? How long before he throws me out on my ear?' Sonny was questioning every step he took but his stride never slowed. 'Knock' he told himself. Sonny knocked on the door of Luke's Office.
"Go Away!" a voice from inside said.
'Great, he's in a bad mood.' Sonny almost turned away, but didn't.
He entered noticing Luke, visiting with Roy, a drink in his hand. "Luke."
"No one seems to know what go away means Roy, not you and not your boss. State your business, Corinthos."
"I need to speak to you alone." Sonny said turning to Roy.
"I'm outta here." Roy said quickly, not wanting to over hear anything business related.
"No, Roy. Sonny you can talk in front of Roy. I trust him." Luke said.
Sonny was a little skeptical, but hadn't seen anything yet to make him doubt Roy's trustworthiness. "Okay, well I know you've dabbled in Cassadine things before and, well, from one of our conversations, I got that you seemed to care for Alexis."
"Are you going to get to the point, or are you wasting my time Sonny?" Luke took another sip of his drink.
"I'm getting there, I'm getting there." Sonny said annoyed at being rushed. "Luke, Alexis is in trouble."
Luke motioned for Sonny to sit down. "I'm all ears."
