For Her - Chapter 9

"Are you sure, Alexis? I mean, they aren't my favorite people but they might be able to help out." Jax said still shocked by Alexis' revelation as to what the papers meant.

"I can't do that to them, Jax. What if I'm wrong? What if it's not true? How would they be able to deal with that?"

"You aren't up to going on an adventure right now." Jax looked at her sympathetically. "You just got out of the hospital."

"Well, I'm not letting you do it alone. Give me a few days and I'll be up for it."

Jax was skeptical, but knew she was determined. "Whatever you say, dear."

2 day's later

"It's too soon." Jax wasn't going to let her push herself. "You aren't up to it yet."

"I'll make you a deal. We'll go for a walk. I have to get out of this penthouse. If I handle the walk okay, then we'll leave tomorrow. This can't wait much longer."

"I don't know if you should really risk being out in public. You are still in danger."

"We'll take Frick and Frack." Alexis said referring to the two bodyguards that stood outside her door. "Please," she said pulling Jax's hand. "I'll be good I promise."

He couldn't say no to her. These last few days together had been like the first few before the break-in. They had ate popcorn together, watched movies and had tons of fun. They hadn't gone beyond flirting, but they were openly flirting with each other without any shame.

He couldn't blame her for wanting to get going. If they were right, they needed to get moving. But he couldn't allow her to push herself. She needed to heal.

He took her hand and they walked out the door. Her hand slipped out of his as she turned to Johnny and River. "Watch our backs." She said as they entered the elevator.

"We will." River said admiring Alexis from behind with a smile. He poked Johnny in the ribs and smirked. Jax caught them admiring his wife and gave them a look. Jax slipped his arm around her to support her, or so she thought, but it was mainly a signal to the guards, that she was his. He didn't know why he was so possessive of her, but he was. She didn't really need to be supported, but she liked the feel of his arm around her back so much that she let him leave it there.

They had walked for about 2 minutes and were heading towards the docks. She was handling the walk better than he'd expected. One of the guards walked in front of them, and one behind. "Don't you feel important, Jax, like the president of the United States with secret servicemen all around."

Jax smiled and rolled his eyes. "Only you could figure out a way to make this bearable." He lifted his arm and pointed at Johnny. They laughed. They walked hand in hand. They enjoyed each other's company and she got the air that she'd been craving. When they arrived at the docks, Johnny looked down and motioned for River and Jax to look as well. Down below they saw Mike and 2 rough looking men. One of the men had hold of Mike and the other looked as if he was right about to punch him in the stomach. They were demanding their 'money' and Mike looked terrified, but was still trying to talk his way out of it. It was times like this that he really missed Jason.

Jax knew that the guards wanted to go stop it, knowing they were Sonny's men and could not just watch Mike getting beat up. "Go ahead!" he said to them and they took off down the steps to get the goons off Mike. Jax didn't know what propelled him to want to help, but he did, "Stay here," he said to Alexis, knowing that it would take her longer to get down the steps. Alexis smiled proud of Jax for stepping in. The men were bookies it seemed and would find him again, when he was alone, if they didn't get their money.

Sonny arrived 2 seconds later, not noticing the events on the lower dock immediately, too stunned at seeing Alexis, alone, unguarded at the docks. He knew Luke and Roy were getting the files today and he was anxious cause he knew she was still very much in danger. He went to her and said. "You really shouldn't be out here alone. Where are my men, the one's that are guarding you?"

He was going to say more but, she pointed to what was happening below. Jax took out a wad of cash and paid the men off. Telling them to get lost. When they hesitated, he told Johnny and River to see to it that they went away. The men took off and Jax turned to Mike. "Cut that one a little close, didn't you?"

"You can say that again." Sonny said as he helped Alexis down the stairs, giving Jax an amazed look and Mike a look that could kill.

"Mr. Winstreak." Luke smiled and held out his hand. "Nice to see you again. Do you have the information that I requested.

Wordlessly, the man took out a large envelope containing the copies. He started to hand it to Luke and held back, waiting for his cash. Luke handed the cash to him and grabbed the envelope in one swift move. "Thanks for your services." Luke watched him leave and decided that he'd wait to look at the papers until they got back to Sonny's. He called Roy out from his hiding place.

"Seemed a little too easy for me, buddy. Maybe, we should get out of here." Roy said reading Luke's mind exactly. They jumped in the Caddillac and headed back to Port Charles.
