A Miracle - Chapter 1

by Amber

It has been one year, six months, three weeks, and five days since Lucky died in the fire over the motor cycle shop. Things were never the same in Port Charles. Even after all this time, the town is still in complete devastation over his death. Luke and Laura never reconnected, but remain civil to each other for Lulu's sake. Emily and Nikolas found comfort in each other and are now dating. For the last year and a half, Liz has been distant from everyone and everything in her life. She spends most of her time alone. Liz still hangs out with Emily and Nikolas, but not the way they used to. Seeing Emily and Nikolas so in love makes Liz miss Lucky more and more. Emily and Nikolas know this, so they try and control each other when they are around Liz. But sometimes, it does not work.

At Kelly's, Emily and Nikolas are sitting outside kissing when Liz comes out to take their order. Liz clears her throat and Emily and Nikolas pull apart.

Liz: (smiling) Can I take your order?

Nikolas: (beet red) Oh yeah, two specials.

Liz: Right, one hotel room coming up.

Liz turns around and goes back in Kelly's and Emily and Nikolas laugh.

Emily: You know, I am really worried about her. Ever since Lucky died she has closed herself off from everything...even her friends...I mean, we barely see her anymore except when she is here working.

Nikolas: I know...But Em...Liz loved Lucky very much and losing him has been a huge blow to her. She hasn't been able to heal her heart.

Emily: I wish I could help her heal her heart.

Nikolas: I know but the only person who could do that is no longer here.

Emily: You know what we should do? We should take her out. There is a free concert in the park tonight, we could all go.

Nikolas: That sounds like fun, but I doubt Liz will go for it.

Liz comes out of Kelly's with their orders.

Liz: Go for what?

Emily: Oh...well...umm...Nikolas and I were thinking about going to that free concert in the park tonight and we want you to come with us.

Liz: Thanks...but no thanks...I'm really not in the mood.

Emily gets up from her seat and stands up, facing Liz.

Emily: Oh come on, Liz, it will be fun, like old times. It is only a couple of hours and it will do you some good to get out of the house.

Liz: I don't know.

Nikolas: Come on, it will be fun.

Liz: Ok, fine, I'll go.

Emily: Great. (Em hugs Liz) We will pick you up at 7:30.

Liz: Ok.

Emily and Nikolas leave and Liz goes back in Kelly's. There are no customers, so she decides to sit down for a few minutes. While she is sitting down, Tammy comes over to her and sits down across from her.

Tammy: Are you ok?

Liz: Not really. I just got suckered into going to that concert in the park tonight with Emily and Nikolas.

Tammy: You don't want to go?

Liz: Not really, but I already agreed.

Tammy: Well, I am sure they were just trying to help you. You might have a good time.

Liz: Watching Emily and Nikolas make out is not my idea of a good time.

Tammy: Oh...Seeing them like that makes you think about Lucky.

Liz: Seeing anyone like that does because I am so scared that I will forget what it was like to hold him and to kiss him. (A tear falls down her cheek)

Tammy: You won't forget, I promise.

Liz: You know, I never told you this, but Lucky told me about the time he came to see you.

Tammy: You mean the night he broke my heart to be with you?

Liz: He told me that the night he saw you was when he realized he loved me.

Tammy: I know...I could see it in his eyes. I did not know the girl he was talking about was you, but what I did know was this girl meant a lot to him and he was in love for the first time.

Liz: I miss him so much, Tammy.

Tammy: I know you do. I do too, I miss seeing him coming in here. I even miss him distracting you from your job. (Liz laughs) Every time he came in here your face lit up. Hey listen, I can handle things here, why don't you go home?

Liz: Are you sure?

Tammy: Sure I'm sure.

Liz and Tammy get up from the table and Tammy gives Liz a hug.

Liz: Thank you.

Tammy: For what?

Liz: Well, if Lucky never went to see you, he might not have realized how he felt.

Tammy: He knew long before he came to see me.

They hug again and Liz takes her apron off and leaves to go home.
