"What!?" Elizabeth shrieked "My name is Elizabeth Webber, I think you
have
the wrong person." Liz said looking at Ilias like he had two heads.
Ilias smiled, he loved giving people surprising news. "You were adopted
Elizabeth, you're real mother is a Cassadine."
"Who?" Liz asked with a sense of dread.
Ilias smiled again, he knew she was believing him. "Her name is Natasha
Cassadine, but I believe you know her as Alexis Davis."
"What?!" Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas all cried.
Faithe was all too familiar with his tactics, "Do you have any proof
Ilias?" Faithe asked, stepping away from Nikolas, who had still been
holding her up. Lucky was now standing next to Liz.
"Unfortunately no, I don't have any proof. You'll just have to trust
me."
Ilias said grinning.
Chrystos stepped forward and spoke directly to Liz, "Do not fault your
mother. As soon as Helena leaned of Alexis' pregnancy she had the father
killed, Alexis loved him very much. She tried to run away to save you,
but
Helena found her. As soon as you were born Helena took you from the
nurse;
Alexis didn't even have a chance to hold you. Helena gave you to one
of her
servants with orders to have you killed." Nikolas paled, he knew Alexis
had
had a hard life at the hands of Helena, but he never knew it was that
bad.
For some reason this information was having the ring of truth for Liz.
"Why wasn't I killed?" Liz asked quietly. Lucky stared at her, he couldn't
believe she was buying this.
Chrystos continued, "My father Kostas, found out what Helena was doing
and
stopped the servants before they could kill you. He bribed the servants
to
keep quiet, so neither Helena or Alexis are aware that you are alive.
My
father gave you to an American adoption agency, but we've kept track
of
you."
"Why didn't you tell Alexis that her child was still alive?" Nikolas
asked.
"Even if Alexis knew, she wouldn't have been able to be with Elizabeth,
Helena would kill her." Chrystos answered, like Nikolas should have
known.
Ilias turned to his father, "Father, I think I can handle it from here."
"Very well son, keep me updated" Chrystos turned and left.
"OK, what do you have planned Ilias?" Faithe asked, wanting to get
to the
point.
"What makes you think I have a plan? Maybe I just wanted to have a
family
picnic." Ilias said feigning innocence.
"You always have a plan." Faithe retorted.
"True, true. Well, I do have a little proposition." Ilias said grinning
evilly. "I want to take over the Cassadine Empire, and I'm offering
that
you two lovely ladies join me."
"And how do you expect to do that? Nikolas is the rightful heir, and
you
can't contest him." Faithe said glancing quickly at Nikolas. She needed
to
find out everything she could about Ilias' plan.
"Well I'll eventually have to kill him then won't I." Ilias said focusing
on Nikolas.
Nik paled, and all four were shocked into silence. Faithe was
the first to
recover; "Well you've got yourself one hell of a plan there Ilias,
but I
think we're going to need some time to think about this. It's been
a very
long trip, do you think we could go someplace and rest?" Faithe said
in her
'pleasant voice'. She needed to regroup and talk to the others; there
was
so much she needed to tell them.
"Very well sweet Faithe." Ilias said then went to the desk and pushed
a
button on the phone. This apparently signaled the guards, because four
guards entered though a door.
"Show them to their quarters." Ilias said and then exited the room
himself.
The four were taken up a few flights of stairs and into what looked
like a
living room of some sort.
"There are two bedroom, one on each side of the common area. Do make
yourselves comfortable." One of the guards said and then all of the
guards
left. The room was nicely decorated, complete with TV and a small
refrigerator. The room had no windows. Faithe went to the refrigerator
and
took out a bottle of water and sat down on the couch and Liz sat down
near
her. Lucky went to the door and turned the handle, and to his surprise
it
opened. He looked outside and there were no guards posted. He turned
back
to Faithe, confused.
"They left the door unlocked and there's no guards posted."
"Believe me, if there's someplace Ilias doesn't want us to go, we won't
get
there." Faithe said, and then focused her attention on Liz.
"Are you all right? Faithe asked quietly, Liz had been very quiet.
"Yeah, I guess so. You know, for just finding out I'm a Cassadine,
I'm
great." Liz said with a little anger in her voice.
"Liz, don't believe them. They had no proof and they lie all the time."
Faithe said.
"But it makes so much sense." Liz said quietly, Lucky sat beside Liz.
Nikolas sat down in a chair.
"I know, the best lies makes the most sense. I'm asking you that just
for
right now, don't believe him. When we get back to Port Charles we'll
find
out if it's true, OK?" Faithe said.
Liz nodded her head "okay"
"What about his little plan. He wants to kill Nikolas." Lucky said
a little
fear showing through in his voice.
"Well my guess is that Chrystos isn't too crazy about Ilias' little
plan."
Faithe said.
"Why do you think that?" Nikolas asked.
"Because Ilias' plan calls for sharing power and Chrystos isn't the
kind.
Also Chrystos hates me. He would be against letting me live, let alone
giving me power." Faithe smirked.
"Why would Ilias want to share power at all, why not take it all for
himself?" Lucky asked.
"Alone he can't challenge Nikolas' claim, with the three of us he might
actually have a chance, or at least that's what he thinks." Faithe
answers.
Nikolas eyed Faithe suspiciously, "Tell me about your mother, Faithe,"
Nikolas said coldly.
"All right," Faithe told Nikolas all about her mother. How she was
raised
by the Cassadines and how she left when she found out about her real
parents. Nikolas nodded his head slowly.
"Okay, now tell us about your connection to Ilias. You know him very
well."
Nikolas said his eyes still cold.
Chapter 17
"Yeah I know him," Faithe took a deep breath, "I met Ilias, around
January
of last year, I had just moved to Seattle. I was in the library when
he
came up and asked me where the Science-Fiction section was. He introduced
himself as Lucky Roberts." Faithe smiled without humor.
"Lucky?" Lucky asked puzzled.
"Ilias means 'lucky' in Greek." Nik explained
"Right, that's actually how we started talking. I said I knew someone
with
that name and he said he thought he was the only one. Anyway we became
friends and then started dating. I became really good friends with
his
'sister' Cassie." Faithe ran her hands through her hair, and began
nervously playing with her necklace.
"Then he told me he loved me, but that he had to tell me the truth
about
himself. Unfortunately dad never told me the name of Chrystos' son.
Ilias
told me his real name, but that he wasn't like the other Cassadines.
He
said the reason he didn't tell me his real name because he was ashamed
of
his family and after he found out what his family did to mine, he was
afraid I would hate him. And stupid me, I believed him." Faithe seemed
to
have a look of disgust on her face. Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas were stunned
silent.
"About a week later I came home and Ilias was with me, and I found
Chrystos
in the living room with a gun to my father's head. I looked at Ilias
for
help, and something changed in his eyes. The guy I fell in love with
was
gone. He said everything was an act, even Cassie. Her real name was
Kassiani, and she wasn't his sister, he was in love with her. I can't
really blame Kassiani, because she loved him so much, she'd do anything
for
him, but she has a good heart." Faithe closed her eyes and took a deep
breath.
"I really thought Chrystos was going to end the whole war right there,
and
kill my father. But suddenly there was an explosion outside; it was
Chrystos' car. In the confusion my dad and I got out."
"Why did the car explode?" Lucky asked
Faithe smiled at the memory, "It was Kassiani, and ever since then
she
would warn us wen Ilias and Chrystos got to close."
"Why did she do that?" Liz asked.
"She's my friend and she feels guilty about the things Ilias does."
"Why didn't you tells us this before? Did my dad know?" Lucky asked,
he was
mad. He couldn't believe she had left this out.
"Luke doesn't know. I didn't tell you because you didn't need to know
until
now." Faithe said trying to be calm. She knew Lucky was going to react
like
this.
" 'Didn't need to know?!' We didn't need to know that you used to date
the
guy that we're running from?!" Lucky yelled as he stood up.
"I'm sorry. Maybe I should have told you, but that was my decision."
Faithe
said getting defensive. She stood and got toe-to-toe with Lucky. "What
did
you expect me to do? Walk up to you guys that first day at Kelly's
and say
'Hi I'm Faithe Reynolds. My mother was raised by Cassadines and I fell
in
love with one!'" She said sarcastically. "When was it the right time
to
tell you?"
"How about when you and Nikolas almost got killed, twice!" Lucky yelled.
Nik and Liz exchanged a look, ready to pull them apart if it came to
blows.
But that wasn't necessary. Faithe sat down on the couch and buried
her head
in her hands and spoke quietly, "What happened with Ilias was personal.
It's not exactly something I like to share."
Lucky took a deep breath and ran his hands through his hair, "I'm sorry
I
yelled at you Faithe." He knew shouldn't have snapped at her, but she
needed to trust them if they were going to get out of this.
Faithe raised her head and smiled, putting on the mask she'd perfected
over
the years, "Don't worry about it."
"Well one thing is for sure, we need to get out of here ASAP." Lucky
said
firmly.
"We can't get out of here, Lucky." Faithe answered.
"And how do you know that?" Lucky asked exasperated at Faithe knowing
so
much about this situation.
"Take a good look at this place. Have you seen one window?" Faithe
asked
gesturing around the room, "this place is a virtual maze. Even if,
by some
stroke of luck, we happen to open a door and it leads outside, we won't
be
able to get two feet without those big burly guards dragging us back
here.
You can get in but you can't get out." A plan was forming in Faithe's
mind,
but a few things needed to be ironed out before she could tell the
others.
Somewhere else in the house
The room was dark but voices could be heard, the voices of the four
teens
on the other end of the mansion. An evil grin spread across Ilias'
face at
Faithe's heartbreaking account of how he betrayed her. Things couldn't
be
going better for Ilias.
Back in the teen's room
Later that night
Lucky couldn't sleep, he looked over and saw Nikolas sleeping soundly.
He
got up and quietly crept into the common area. Somehow he knew Elizabeth
would be there, and there she was, sitting on the couch hugging her
knees
to her chest. A small lamp on the end table was the only illumination
in
the room. Lucky sat next to her and put his arm around her and she
leaned
into him.
"We don't know if it's true Elizabeth" Lucky said softly.
"It would explain so much," She said quietly, "Why I don't look like
the
rest of my family, why I don't act like the rest of my family. It would
explain so much if I was adopted."
"Elizabeth this is what Ilias and Chrystos wanted to do, put the idea
in
your head so you would start doubting things." He said firmly.
"I know Lucky, but what if it is true. Then I would be a Cassadine.
Would
that... I mean would it... change how you feel?" Liz asked timidly.
"Elizabeth if this true then you've always been a Cassadine. I will
always
love you, no matter who your parents are. I've told you before, you're
not
going to get rid of me that easy." Lucky said smiling.
Liz smiled back, "Thanks"
"The first thing we're going to do once we get back to Port Charles
is..."
"Go to Eli's?" Liz cut in.
"Okay, the second thing we're going to do is call your parents and
see if
this whole adoption thing is true. If it is, then we'll go to Alexis
Davis
and find out if she ever had a baby, then if all that is true then
we'll
get blood tests done at GH. We'll find out the truth Elizabeth." Lucky
said
trying to be reassuring.
Liz smiled and snuggled against Lucky and fell asleep peacefully.
Chapter 18
The Next morning
The four teens all sat in the common room, showered, changed, and rested.
Ilias had had their bags brought in for them the previous day.
Unfortunately Ilias had confiscated Lucky's laptop, Faithe's gun, and
Nik's
cell phone. Liz was surprised that Faithe had carried a gun. Just then
there was a soft knock on the door.
Faithe looked at the door quizzically, as if asking it a question.
"Come
in" She said in a strong but polite tone.
The door opened to reveal a small woman, around 20 years old, with
blonde
hair and blue eyes. When she saw Faithe she smiled. Faithe's eyes grew
wide
with surprise and joy. Faithe ran to the woman and they hugged each
other.
Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas looked on in confusion.
"Kassiani!" Faithe cried. "I'm so happy to see you."
Kassiani pulled away from Faithe and looked at her sadly. "I've been
in
Athens for two weeks visiting family, and when I came back Ilias tells
me
to come up and welcome our 'guests'. Apparently he wanted me out of
the
country so I wouldn't be able to warn you this time. I'm so sorry Faithe."
"He found out you were helping me?" Faithe said worried, "He didn't
hurt
you did he?"
Kassiani smiled, "You know better than that Faithe, he would never
hurt
me."
Faithe nodded, "I know, I just worry sometimes."
"And I thank you for that Cousin." Kassiani said, smiling.
"Cousin?!" Lucky and Nikolas both shouted. Faithe was wearing that,
'Oops I
forgot' expression.
"Yes. When Faithe's mother was taken by the Cassadines as a baby, she
had
an older sister, my mother. My mother was raised by the Cassadines
as a
servant." Kassiani answered like she expected them not to know.
"Is there anything else you need to tell us?!" Lucky yelled.
Faithe was about to respond when Kassiani stepped in, eyes blazing.
"What Faithe does or does not tell you is her business!" Suddenly this
small, seemingly weak woman was a force to be reckoned with.
"It's our business when it endangers our lives!" Lucky yelled back.
Kassiani turned to Faithe, shook her head, and mumbled, "Americans"
Faithe laughed, "Kassiani Vilanys meet Lucky Spencer, Liz Webber, and
Nikolas Cassadine."
Kassiani gasped with mock surprise, "Prince Nikolas," she curtsied,
"it is
an honor to have you in our presence." She said in an all too surapy
sweet
tone, but her eyes were cold.
Faithe placed a hand on Kassiani's shoulder, "Down girl." She said
smiling
in amusement, " Kass these are my friends."
Kass looked at Faithe in astonishment.
"I know, I know." Faithe put her hands up in defense at the silent
accusation of her being friends with a Cassadine, and the 'Prince'
no less.
"Look, he saved my life a couple of times, the least I could do was
be nice
to him."
Kassiani seemed very surprised. "He saved your life?" Kass asked quietly.
Faithe nodded "Twice"
Kass turned toward Nikolas, "I am sorry I was rude," She started slowly,
"Thank you for saving Faithe's life, I am very grateful."
Nikolas just nodded in response.
Kass turned back to Faithe; "Do you have a plan to get yourselves out?"
Faithe looked surprised then looked about the room like someone was
listening.
"Oh don't worry. We can speak freely." Kass held up what looked to
be a
tiny remote control. "It's called a scrambler, it makes it seem like
there's just a lot of static. I turned it on when I came into the room."
Faithe looked at her in mock astonishment; "You're not going high tech
on
me are you?"
Kass just smiled
"I suppose there is a lot you want to know." Kass said. Faithe nodded
her
head.
All five of them sat down on the couches and chairs and the attention
was
drawn to Kassaini.
"Why did Chrystos suddenly come after us four years ago?" Faithe
questioned, "We hadn't heard anything from them for years before that.
My
mother said it was because Kostas wouldn't let Chrystos come after
us."
"Well that is true, Kostas kept a very firm leash on Chrystos, but
then
something happened." Kass looked sadly at Faithe "About a week before
the
fire that killed your mother, Dimitria, Kostas' wife." She explained
to
Lucky and Liz, Nikolas already knew. "She had a stoke. She was very
sick
for a long while after that. With Kostas' attention on his wife, Chrystos
decided that it was the time to act against your father. Kostas exiled
him
from the family when he found out what happened. But Kostas always
had such
a forgiving soul. He eventually took him back. Kostas kept a more watchful
eye on Chrystos and Ilias after that." Faithe looked at Kass, waiting
for
her to go on. She knew there was more.
"For a long time Kostas was in control and Dimitria was healthy. Right
before Christmas of '97, about two weeks before you met Ilias in that
library, Dimitria died. Kostas was devastated, he hasn't been the same
since" Kass' face turned concerned, "I can barely get him to eat, it's
as
if he's just waiting to die."
"He's still alive?" Faithe said almost to herself. "My mother always
said
that as long as Kostas was alive, we'd all be safe. I just figured
he had
died."
"In a way he did. His heart died with Dimitria, he loved her so much."
There was silence for a while. Faithe finally broke out of her own
trance.
"I want to see him, Kostas."
Kassiani nodded, she knew Faithe would want to see him. Faithe and
Kass
both stood from their seats and started to walk towards the door. Faithe
turned back to her friends.
"We can just look for a way to escape until you get back." Lucky
said.
"No don't do anything. Lucky, you and Nikolas may know Stefan and Helena
inside and out, but Chrystos makes Helena look like pussycat. I know
them.
I'll take care of them." Faithe's eyes held a cold hatred in them that
Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas would rather not see again.
Chapter 19
Kass led Faithe to another part of the house; they came to a door at
the
end of a long hallway. Kass turned to face Faithe; "He doesn't talk
much,
he might not even respond to you. I just want you to be prepared."
Faithe nodded. She could hardly believe that after years of hearing
stories
about him, she was finally going to meet Kostas Cassadine. Her mother
had
always told her that Kostas had a good heart, she just hoped he would
be
able to help her and her friends.
Kass opened the door. The room was dark; the only light was coming
from a
small candle on a table. Next to the table was an old man seated in
a
wheelchair. He was staring blankly at a painting on the wall. The painting
was of a beautiful young woman with long dark hair and big brown eyes,
Faithe assumed it was Dimitria.
"I'll leave you alone." Kass said as she quickly left the room.
Faithe walked over to the man and kneeled down in front of his wheelchair.
"Kostas" Faithe said trying to get his attention. The man looked at
her and
seemed to recognize her.
"Anna?" The old man whispered.
Faithe smiled sadly at Kostas, she had been told she looked like her
mother
but she had never thought so. "No, I'm her daughter, Faithe."
Kostas' face was that of pure joy, "I was wondering when I would meet
you."
He said smiling. Faithe had assumed by his actions that he was senile,
apparently he just put on a good act. She had never seen anyone so
lucid.
Faithe smiled at the old man.
"You look so much like your mother, I miss her so." Kostas said as
he put
his hand on her cheek.
"My mother always told me stories about you, how good you were to her."
"She didn't hate me?" he said astonished.
Faithe just shook her head and the old man smiled.
"Are my son and grandson up to their old tricks again?"
"Yep, my friends and I need to get out of here, do you think you could
help?"
"I wish I could spend more time with you, but yes, I can help you at
least
get a message to the outside via email."
"Perfect!" This fit right in with the plan that had been formulating
in her
mind.
The Spencer House
About an hour later
Luke was starting out the front window, where he had been for the past
day
and a half. Sonny and Stefan had people looking for the kids, and Luke
and
Laura had the job of waiting just in case the kids could get a message
out.
Luke hated waiting; all he had been doing was staring out the window
and
pacing. Laura wasn't doing much better, she was cleaning everything
in
sight and she had already baked three dozen of Lucky's favorite cookies.
Luke knew that was what she did when she was nervous, she tried to
keep
herself busy.
Just then Luke heard the sound he had been waiting to hear; "You've
Got
Mail".
Luke rushed to the computer and clicked on the mail button. As he read
a
wide grin spread across his face. Faithe's plan sounded a little like
one
of those grand schemes Carly thinks up, but he had to admit it might
just
work.
Chrystos' House
Ilias was in the study reading the latest financial report of the Cassadine
holdings when there was a soft knock on the door. "Come in" he said
quickly, expecting only a servant.
The door opened and Faithe walked in.
"Faithe, what can I do for you?" He said sweetly.
"You knew didn't you." She said softly as she walked over and sat in
the
chair in front of the desk facing Ilias.
"What did I know?" Ilias said innocently
"You knew I would accept your offer to share power." She said simply.
"And how would I know that?"
"Because you know I still love you." She said quietly, almost weakly,
but
her eyes maintained contact with his.
An evil grin spread across Ilias' face; "Yes, yes I knew that. I just
didn't know what was stronger, your love or your hate."
Faithe shook her head slightly; "I didn't know either until I saw you
again. It was really easy to hate you from a distance."
"You know my heart belongs to Kassiani." Ilias said still wearing that
grin.
Faithe rose from her chair and walked around the desk until she was
directly in front of Ilias. She leaned in and kissed him, slowly,
enticingly. She pulled away, looked straight into his eyes, and said,
"I'll
take any part of you I can get."
Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas were getting worried, Faithe had been gone now
for
several hours. Just then two guards entered the room.
"Mr. Cassadine would like to see you." One of them said.
Nikolas and Lucky shared a worried look, what if Faithe got herself
into
trouble.
The guards led Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas into the study, when they entered
they saw Ilias talking to someone in a high-back chair. They couldn't
see
who it was.
Ilias looked up and saw them, "Oh, good you're here. I would like to
give
Elizabeth a chance to accept my offer."
Liz looked at him like he was crazy, "Never!" she said forcefully.
Ilias smiled at her loyalty to her friends.
"Well that's all right, I just wanted to give you the chance of joining
your friend."
The three of them looked at him in confusion. Then the person in the
chair
turned around and she said, "Hi guys."
"Faithe?" Liz whispered.
"Faithe what are you doing?" Lucky asked, already knowing the answer.
"What can I say, power appeals to me." Faithe said smiling, showing
no
remorse for her betrayal.
"Faithe how could you just change sides like that?" Nikolas asked
"Easy, Ilias is offering me power and that's what I want." She said
coldly.
"I thought you didn't trust Cassadines" Nikolas said
Faithe looked back at Ilias, "I don't" she looked down at the floor
and
said quietly, "But I love him."
"So you would betray us, just like that?" Lucky cried
"Seems like it Lucky." Faithe turned to Ilias, "Could they go now?"
"Certainly" Ilias signaled the guards and Lucky, Liz, and Nikolas left
with
them.
"Are you all right Faithe?" Ilias asked
"I'm fine. I just wish they would see it our way, things would be so
much
easier for them if they cooperated." She said smiling at Ilias.
