Luke's Club
Luke looked at Lucky hope shining in his eyes, though his head was screaming for him to be reasonable and not let his heart caused him more heartache.
Lucky swallowed hard, his heart and mind racing. He wasn't prepared to explain what was going on to his father. The time simple wasn't right. There was still much he needed to take care of before he could reveal his identity to his parents.
"Luke, I am sorry. I almost called you Dad because my father called me COWBOY and for a minute there it felt like old times."
Luke stared at Lucky for a long moment, his head finally winning out over his heart. He shook his head and ran his hand across his thinning hair warily before slumping back into his chair.
Giving Lucky a sad smile, Luke nodded indicating for Lucky to take the seat across from his desk. Lucky sat down feeling guilty and relieved at the same time. He knew that he would need to tell his father eventually, but today wasn't for that revelation.
Also, a sudden thought had occurred to Lucky on the drive over from seeing Helena. It hit him that once his father learned that Helena was responsible for his death, he would no doubt kill her.
It wouldn't matter to his Dad that he was given a second chance to live again. Helena would still be a dead woman if his father learned what she did.
Lucky didn't want to lose his father now that he had a second chance to love him, but he knew that once Luke learned the truth he would exact his revenge on Helena without thought or consideration of the consequences.
"No," thought Lucky. "Helena has to go down without taking anyone he loved with her." Though he had told Helena that she had to confess to his dad what she had done, Lucky knew that Helena would sooner confess her crime to the authorities than risk his father's wrath and that was Lucky's ultimate goal. Lucky would make sure Helena was brought to justice by her own confession, it was only a matter of time and pressure.
Now sitting in the seat across from his father's desk, a seat he had sat in many times before, Lucky cemented his plan in his mind. Elizabeth won't like it but he knew what he had to do and he would achieve it before his family learned his true identity.
Lucky's head snapped up suddenly when he heard his father's voice inquiring about something. "I am sorry, what did you say?"
"A little spacey today, aren't you? You are not still thinking about what happened before are you? Because that's ok, it was just a simple misunderstanding." Luke said, not wanting to alienate the man who held his attention as only one other person ever had.
"I am sorry, I just have a lot on my mind right now."
"I see. Who is she?" Luke asked, amusement shining in his eyes, signaling a return of his usual personality.
Lucky smiled at his father's returned sense of humor but ignored the question. "So what were you asking earlier when I spaced out on you."
"Good one, very smooth, change the subject. You should know though that information usually falls into my lap, so whatever secret you are keeping I will sniff it out eventually."
Lucky laughed, happy to be in his father's company once more. Even under the circumstances, it still felt a bit like old times and looking at his Dad, Lucky could see that his presence had a good effect on Luke. "What was your question, Luke?"
"I was saying before that I thought I had the exclusive on calling my son COWBOY, but I guess the resemblance thing between you and Lucky are not the only thing you two have in common, huh?"
Lucky gave his Dad a nervous smile. "I guess you could say that."
Luke nodded giving Lucky a searching look that caused Lucky to shifted nervously in his seat. He felt like his dad was looking straight through him and could read his very thoughts. "This is going to be very difficult, if not impossible." Lucky thought, avoiding Luke's penetrating gazed.
"There goes that feeling again." Luke thought, looking at the young man sitting awkwardly before him. The kid is definitely hiding something, but what?"
Luke didn't get a chance to sniff out the matter any further because Claude was back, this time with an annoyed look creasing his generally expressionless features.
"Luke, Helena Cassidine is here to see you and I can't get her to leave. She's being obnoxious man, threatening to kill me if you don't get out there immediately.
"So basically she's being Helena?" Luke said sarcastically. "Claude, you should know how to deal with the Queen of Wickedness by now. Don't tell me she has you spooked. That's it Claude, you are fired. I can't have a little sissy working for me. It makes me look bad."
Claude ignored Luke's remark having been fired at least a dozen times already that week. "She looks freaked man, not her normal arrogant, perfectly attired self."
Luke's face broke out into a big smile. "Really? Oh, this I have to see. Law, will you excuse me for a minute or, oh man, you want to come meet Satan's Mother?" Luke asked hopefully.
Lucky tried to stifle a laugh, happy to watch his father in action again. "No, I will be fine here. Actually, I think I had better be going, but I will come by and visit you and Laura soon."
Luke halted his departure for a minute. "Laura and I would like that and you still haven't met Lulu, she will like you man, so you do that. You stop by anytime you like. You are always welcome in our home." Luke said sincerely, fighting the urge to embrace the young man.
Lucky waited until Luke had disappeared through the door leading into the club before willing his physical being away and following Luke into the club. "This I have to see," thought Lucky.
Above, earlier:
"Hi Law, Leona." Ruby greeted the new arrivals to the group. The others echoed a cheerful greeting as well to the new arrivals.
Upon his arrival above, Law had quickly reunited with his wife, Leona and at first had remained attached to her side. Eventually though, the two had found the group watching the miracle of what the Scott's lives and death had made possible. They had slipped among the small group and had watched silently for the most part, offering little to the colorful discussion that usually ensued following an encounter below.
Bill regarded Law closely for awhile before addressing him. "So Law, tell me, how do you feel about Lucky assuming your identity?"
Everyone including Leona turned to hear Law's response, having all wondered the same thing.
"I think it's wonderful. After watching Lucky, I can see that he is a wonderful person who didn't deserve what happened to him. Unlike me, he didn't have a choice about dying young."
Law paused, a far away look clouding his eyes for a second. "I was so consumed with grief over losing Leona." He stopped and looked at Leona tenderly before continuing. "I guess it was the same for Lucky, with Elizabeth, I mean. He remained behind for the same reasons I had to leave. Still, our circumstances are somewhat different in that while I was selfish, he was strong."
Brenda looked at Law in confusion. "I don't understand? Brenda said interrupting Law as he started to continue. "What do you mean by that, "you were selfish and he was strong?"
"Well it's obvious, isn't it? I.." Law stopped, his eyes fixed below observing the scene. "What's going on down there?"
Everyone turned and cast their attention below to see what Law was referring to. They had all been so wrapped up in listening to Law express his feelings about Lucky and his past life that they had all turned their attention from the scene below. At the time nothing exciting was taking place since Lucky was en-route somewhere and all other fronts were quiet.
Bill chuckled as he noted that everything below was frozen in time. People, animal, plants and thing were stopped as if trapped in a beautiful work of art. "Inventory, Law, inventory is being conducted right now."
"Inventory?" Law asked, a puzzled expression on his face as he turned to look at Leona who like the others had a knowing look on her face.
Leona nodded at Bill and smiled before turning to explain what was going on to Law. "This happens every once in awhile below to return the spirits from the underworld to their proper places. See, every now and again there is this outbreak of insanity below where it's seems evil is in complete control everywhere, causing people to be even more destructive to each other than the norm. Well that is no coincidence.
During those times where there is an outbreak of pointless wars, an abundance of senseless killings and just an extreme degree of violence all together. The spirits from the underworld have been loosen to do as much damage as possible before they can be gathered up and returned to where they belong.
That is what you are witnessing right now, it's called inventory. The angels in charge go down and round them all up and toss them back where they belong. Of course these evil spirits don't want to return to their proper place, so they attempt to hide themselves away in very creative way. By stopping time itself, everything that is from the physical world below stops. The spirits are then left vulnerable since they are unable to keep hiding in any physical being during this period of time. See, it's starting now, watch."
Law looked on in amazement as angry spirits started to fall out of the most unimaginable places including, the bodies of people, animal and plants.
While Law watched to the scene unfolding below, the others watched him, always fascinated by a spirit above seeing what was happening below for the first time.
Law turned slightly to Leona his attention still fixed below. "Since they are rounded up and returned to where they belong, why doesn't the world ever experience perfect peace."
Leona nodded in understanding, having asked that same question herself when she first learned of the inventory process. "Law, they are rounded up and returned but the damage was still done and it takes time to repair. Those times when heads of states gather together to discuss peace agreements. Those times when a hostage taker lays down his weapon and surrenders. Those times when someone's mood changes from dark back to a more normal personality.
All of these occurrences and many more starts happening following inventory. Some of these changes begins immediately, others takes time. While these changes are occurring, other spirits escapes the underworld to release another round of chaos and the cycle begins again. It is a never-ending cycle, which is why peace below has always been elusive."
"Wow!" Law said completely blown away by what he had just heard. "Some of those spirits were in people, are you saying that they can just take up residence in any body they choose?"
"No, not everyone is susceptible to evil spirits but some people who are what we call weak links are open to them. Usually someone going through a difficult time and might be experiencing a weak moment are most open to spirits from below. Then there are those that have given themselves over to the dark side completely. Those people are really open to evil and are usually the bodies the spirits from below chooses."
Bill roared with laughter as his attention was drawn to one person in particular. "So that's what the problem was, I should have known. See, Law, there is your example of a weak mind being a open playground for evil."
Mary Mae frowned at Bill. "Now that was not kind Bill, one weak moment caused that. Everything should be better now. That's what should cause you to rejoice."
Bill hung his head at the reprimand while the others turn their attention back to Law.
Law was finally able to give Leona his undivided attention since the events below had ended and time was once again set free. "Why were some spirits gathered up and others left undisturbed?"
Bill turned to Ruby and smiled. "Didn't tell you that would be his next question. Am I good at this or what?"
"What!" Answered Ruby, causing Bill to glare at her.
The others chuckled at that before falling silent to let Leona explain what happened to Law.
"Law, those spirits are not from the underworld. They are spirits that didn't walk into the light and are now trapped below in the spirit realm."
"I see, like what Ruby explained could happen to Lucky if Elizabeth doesn't love him and he doesn't walk into the light before the anniversary of his death."
"That's right," said Dominique, jumping in. "Although, I don't think Lucky has to worry about that anymore, since it's obvious Elizabeth loves him and I can't think of anything that could ever change that, can you?"
"No, I guess not." Agreed Law.
Bill, BJ, Brenda, Ruby and Stone burst out laughing, causing the others to turn to see what they were laughing at.
The others watched below to see what was so funny, but all they could see at the moment was Lucky and Luke regarding each other longingly.
Brenda giggled. "You guys missed it. Lucky just made a save a clever one too."
"Yeah, that was tricky." Bill chimed in. "He did my Spencer heart proud, talking about his father like he wasn't sitting before him and Luke totally bought it."
Ruby frowned. "Yeah, but not for long. He was suspicious of him and it's only a matter of time before he figures it out. You know Luke, when he smells something fishy, he's like a dog with a bone. He never lets go until he gets answers."
"Yeah, that maybe, but not even my cousin can put this one together. I mean, really, who would ever guess that Law and Lucky are one and the same. No, Luke will never put this one together. He will be in the dark until Lucky decides to tell him." Bill said, nodding thoughtfully.
Law jumped in to ask the question that some of the others were thinking. "Why didn't he just tell him then. Ruby didn't you say that he's free to tell whomever he like?"
"Yes, but if Lucky felt it necessary to continue to keep Luke in the dark he must have a very good reason for doing so. I trust him to know when to tell his parents what's going on."
"I suppose you are right." Agreed Law smiling as he saw the others nodded their heads in agreement also."
Brenda was about to ask Law what he was trying to say before about the differences between his decision and Lucky's, when she heard a shout of laughter from Bill. Question forgotten for the time being she cast her eyes below. She smiled when she watched as Lucky changed to spirit form and wondered into the club after Luke and perched on one of the bar to observe the exchange between Luke and Helena.
"Oh, this is going to be good." Bill said grinning broadly.
Nikolas Cassidine's Cottage:
Nikolas jumped at the sound of the telephone ringing. After the second ring, he reached over and picked up the instrument and placed it to his ears. "Hello."
"Mr. Cassidine." Came the anxious voice of his secretary.
"Yes?"
"Sir, I am sorry. I called everywhere, you asked sir. The train station, the bus depot and the airport and no one had a listing of a passenger by the name of Elizabeth Webber."
"What are you talking about?"
"Sir?"
Nikolas jumped to his feet in alarm. "Is there something wrong with Elizabeth? What happened, why are you checking around for her?"
Nikolas was answered by silence for a long moment causing his stomach to sink as all kinds of horrible thoughts about what may have happened to Elizabeth flooded his thoughts. His secretary finally answered his question in a hesitant voice. "Sir, you requested a short while ago that I called around to find out Elizabeth Webber's travel destination, don't you remember?"
"Why would I do that? Elizabeth is my friend, surely if she went somewhere she would let me know, unless.." Nikolas voice trailed off as he racked his brain trying to bring to mind the last thing he could recall. He placed his hand on his throbbing forehead, adding pressure to release some of the tension. "Can you tell me if there is any reason to think something is wrong with Elizabeth?"
"No sir, I don't know of any reason. Although, you did sound frantic earlier when you called and asked for me to check around for her travel destination."
"Listen, I will get to the bottom of this and call you back with any further instructions." Nikolas said, hanging up before his secretary could add anything further.
As soon as he hung up he jumped to his feet and paced the length of the room. The last thing he could recall was the evening of his brother's memorial and his conversation with Emily. "Emily, I have to see Emily." Nikolas thought, thinking of how Emily was always able to comfort him when he was in distress.
Grabbing his coat, Nikolas dashed outside, shocked at how cold it was for this time of year. "It feels like February." Nikolas thought as he headed for his car, thinking of Emily and how comforting she had been after the funeral. "That must have been yesterday," whispered Nikolas as he pulled out of the driveway. "Why can't I remember anything after my conversation with Emily yesterday?"
Lyndon Manor, later:
Elizabeth gazed lovingly at Leo's sleeping figure. Leo had worn himself out playing with Elizabeth. He had demanded her complete attention from the moment she had taken over from Mrs. Worthington after breakfast.
They had play building blocks for awhile, followed by Leo's favorite game of ball. Elizabeth had sat and giggled for over a half an hour rolling an oversized ball back and forth with Leo. Later they had played peek-a-boo until Leo had finally fallen asleep, exhausted. Elizabeth had lovingly tucked him in for his afternoon nap and now sat smiling at his angelic sleeping face.
Watching Leo sleep was a joy in itself for Elizabeth. She had forgotten what it was like to simply relax and have fun. All of that had gone when Lucky was taken from her and now suddenly with him back in her life, it was like that part of her was reborn.
Thinking about Lucky now caused Elizabeth to sigh worriedly. She wondered where he had taken off to so mysteriously all morning. He had promised Elizabeth this morning that he wouldn't be long, but it was already afternoon and he still wasn't back.
"Lucky can take care of himself. I am sure its probably just work." Elizabeth assured herself calmly. She checked to see that Leo was sleeping peacefully before walking out of the room and wandering down the stairs and into the living room.
Elizabeth curled up on the window seat by the big bay window and looked out at the peaceful scene before her. She was still not completely over her shock of all that had happened, but she did know that she was living an incredible miracle and she was very thankful to god for giving her a second chance with the man she love.
Leaning forward, Elizabeth pressed her face against the glass and looked up at the sky. "Thank you for this Ruby. And grandfather, if you had anything to do with this thank you too. Lucky, of course, is convinced that this is all Ruby and he's probably right, but I sense your hands in this too, so thank you. You and Ruby have made me very happy. You have both saved my life."
Elizabeth jumped a little when Mrs. Worthington called out her name. "I am sorry dear. I didn't mean to startle you. Mr. Worthington wanted me to ask you what you would like for lunch this afternoon."
"Nothing, thank you. I am still full from breakfast." Elizabeth said, holding her stomach for emphasis.
"Ok then, but if you should become hungry before dinner, please don't hesitate to let either Mr. Worthington or myself know and we will be happy to fix you something before supper."
Elizabeth smiled at Mrs. Worthington, already feeling a kinship to the woman and her wonderful husband. "Thank you Mrs. Worthington, I will remember that." Elizabeth told the woman. She was certain that she would not be hungry before supper and even if she were, Elizabeth had no intention of bothering the Worthington's with something she could handle herself.
Mrs. Worthington smiled and backed politely out of the room, leaving Elizabeth alone with her thoughts once more. "Lucky where are you? Next time you leave me for some unknown destination, I am making you check in every hour." Elizabeth whispered, a smile curving her lips.
Elizabeth fingered the ring on her finger bringing it to her lips for a tender kiss. She thought about Lucky and her heart swelled with love for him. A smile brightened her face as her mind was flooded with thoughts from this morning, thoughts that made her blush and caused her body to grow warm despite the room's cool temperature.
"Oh Lucky, where are you, baby?"
Luke's Club, earlier:
"Helena, what's the matter babe? You look frightening. Sorry, my mistake, you are always frightening but wait, where are the designer clothes? Oh my god! Helena, where's your face?" Luke said jumping back and feigning a look of horror.
From his perch on the counter, Lucky covered his mouth to prevent himself from laughing out loud at his father's comedic actions. He noted the haphazardness of Helena's appearance and chuckled quietly as he realized that his haunting efforts were paying off. Helena was definitely running scared right now and it was a wonderful sight to behold.
Helena's eyes darted nervously around as she sat shakily down on the nearest chair. "Stop this Luke, you must stop this right now or there will be repercussions." Helena said, trying to sound menacing but only managing to sound even more terrified, alerting Luke that something serious was really up with Helena.
"Helena, now this is the second time you've come here giving me credit for deeds I only wish I did and frankly it's getting a little tiresome. Listen, if I were guilty of pulling some stunt that had you looking like something the cat dragged in or in your case threw up. I would tell you about it, you know that Vamps. You know how much I like to share poison with you. In fact, I am becoming a little put out that someone else as been having so much fun without me."
Helena glared a Luke, but her eyes belied her terror. "I am warning you Luke Spencer, you call off your ghouls or I promise you I will make you pay for this. How is your beautiful daughter, Lesley Lu, I am sorry its Lulu, isn't it? How is her health these days. It would be unfortunate if something terrible should happen to the little darling, especially after you've already lost one child."
Luke's face turned deathly serious as her regarded Helena coldly. He advanced on her swiftly and griped her around the neck pulling her roughly to her feet. "Don't ever threaten my daughter again." Luke whispered through gritted teeth. "Don't ever bring up my son to me again you sick blood sucker, if you do the last sound you hear will be the sound of your neck squishing between my hands."
Luke glared at the woman for another long moment before he released her, causing her to fall back into the chair she had previously occupied. Helena coughed hoarsely, grabbing her throat as she choked for several long seconds.
From his position atop the counter, Lucky watched with interest. "She never quits." Lucky thought slipping off the counter and walking slowly and deliberately up behind Helena.
Bending his head so he was mere inches away from her ears Lucky whispered softly to Helena so only she could hear. "Threatening my little sister? Naughty, naughty, naughty, I am very unhappy with you Helena. Now how do you thing I should punish you for this?"
Helena stiffened and sat straight up in her chair and attempted to get up but Lucky held her firmly in place. Helena whimpered and tried futilely to squirm away from Lucky but his whispered word "be still" caused her to suddenly freeze in place.
Luke watched the scene before him with a mixture of glee and shock. "What's the matter old girl? You look positively stricken." Luke said, laughing loudly at the look of pure terror on Helena's face.
Lucky dragged Helena to her feet, his face still close to her ear. "Now, I want you to gather your things and apologize to my father for threatening his daughter. Then I want you to return to the yacht and stay there I will deal with you later and remember no leaving and no more threats. I am watching you Helena, don't forget it."
Helena stood shivering, closing her eyes against the feel of the back of Lucky's hands caressing her face. "Luke," Helena whispered in a trembling voice. "I am sorry for saying what I did about your daughter, it won't happen again."
"That's right it won't happen, remember, squish." Luke said circling his hands together tightly to demonstrate his intentions to Helena.
At the feel of Lucky's hand pushing her forward, Helena grabbing her purse and fled the room, leaving a speechless Luke behind.
"I want to take full credit for that but somehow, I don't think I deserve it. Now, I know someone is putting the screws to the old bat." Luke whispered once is voice returned. "CLAUDE!" Luke bellowed. "I AM GOING TO NEED YOU TO HANDLE THINGS HERE FOR AWHILE, I GOT STUFF TO DO. AND CLAUDE IF YOU BOOK ANY BOY BANDS, YOU ARE FIRED DO YOU HEAR ME, FIRED!" Luke shouted grabbing his keys and heading for the door.
Lucky watched his father go, wondering what his old man was up to now. He knew how is dad got when he smelled a rat and he's been given lots of reasons to smell one today. First with their meeting and now with Helena.
Lucky sighed loudly, causing an employee walking by to jump back and screeched in horror. Lucky had to use every ounce of will power he had not to burst out laughing at the frightened look on the man's face. He watched as the man backed slowly towards the door before making a mad dash out the door. "Sorry about that dad, it looks like someone won't be able to work tonight." Lucky whispered, chuckling softly as he walked out the door and headed for his car.
Once in his car, he dialed Mrs. Diamond and waited anxiously for her to pick up. He knew he needed to find out from her about how to proceed with his relationship with Elizabeth, but he had no idea how he would brooch the subject. Lucky also knew that he couldn't face Elizabeth again until he had an answer about the questioned she had posed earlier. As it was Lucky didn't know how he was going to be able to be in the room with Elizabeth if they couldn't be together.
"I guess with this older body also comes heighten sexuality." Lucky thought, trying to banish the erotic images of Elizabeth that had suddenly flooded his mind.
"Hello."
"Mrs. Diamond, it's Lucky, I mean Law."
"Law, how are you? I had a feeling I would here from you soon. How did things go with Elizabeth? Have you told her who you really are?" Mrs. Diamond asked, her voice reflecting her excitement.
"Yes, I did tell her and it went well after an initial false start. I explained everything to her, well almost everything and she's taking it very well. She loves me Mrs. Diamond, she loves me as Law."
"Well, I never doubt she would. She's your soul mate, she has to love you." Mrs. Diamond said in a smiling voice. "Obviously things with Elizabeth are good, so what's the problem and why don't you sound ecstatic?" Mrs. Diamond asked, her tone suddenly serious as she heard the hesitancy in Lucky's voice.
"Oh, I am, but I have something very delicate to ask you about." Lucky said, reddening with embarrassment even though Mrs. Diamond couldn't see him and he hadn't yet asked the question.
"What is it Law? You know I will answer any question if I can." Mrs. Diamond said in a soothing voice, sensing that whatever Law had to say it was really difficult for him.
"Well, ah, it's about Elizabeth and I. Ah, ah, well, we were wondering, ah. This is really difficult." Lucky said becoming silent for a long moment. "Maybe, I should call you back later." Lucky said after the silence stretched on for almost a minute.
"No, no, Law, why don't we have a face to face, that might make it easier for you to ask what you are trying to ask me."
"A face to face, you mean fly to New York." Lucky asked doubtfully, thinking of the time and how long he had been away from Elizabeth already.
"Yes, I mean come to New York, but you don't have to fly Law."
"What do you mean, I am not driving that would take too long and I have already been away from Elizabeth for hours. She's still getting used to this and I think the longer I am away from her the more unreal this will start to seem to her again. I don't want to see her go back to that dark place. She's probably already thinking she's just dreamt everything and coming up with all sorts of ideas to explain why she's in a strange house with strange people and a baby. Trust me, Mrs. Diamond she's got a really active imagination and she can invent some serious explanation when she gets insecure."
"Law, I wasn't suggesting that you drive here either. Law, close your eyes and just will yourself to my presence right now."
Lucky gasped. "I can do that?"
"Yes, go ahead, give it a try."
Lucky closed his eyes and pictured Mrs. Diamond face then in his mind he willed himself to wherever she was and just like that he was suddenly there. "It worked!" Lucky shouted when he found himself standing before Mrs. Diamond in the middle of her den.
"Very good Law, now if you will make yourself visible to me, we can talk." Mrs. Diamond chuckled good-naturedly.
"Oh sorry." Lucky said before willing his physical being back.
"There you are." Mrs. Diamond said, reaching over and giving Lucky a big hug, which he happily returned.
A minute later after Mrs. Diamond had fixed Lucky a glass of juice and he had finish gulping it down, he turned to her and frowned. "You didn't tell me I could do that."
"I know, and I was hoping that I wouldn't need to." Mrs. Diamond said sighing gently.
"Why, is it dangerous or against the rules or something."
"No, nothing like that. I just don't want you to go through what I went through once I became a physical being again."
"I don't understand."
"I got really dependent on moving in the spiritual realm and at first had a difficult time adjusting to being able to move only in the physical. I wanted to spare you that, so I neglected to mention some of the things you are able to do as a spirit."
"I guess that makes sense, but I think if I limit what I do in the spiritual realm it won't be so bad when I have to give it up right.
"That would be wise." Mrs. Diamond said, a faraway look in her eyes.
Lucky chuckled. "Aha, you hated giving up the powers, huh? So tell me how difficult was it really to give up all of this."
"No, no, we are not here to talk about me and my experience. We are here to talk about you and this thing you want to ask me about you and Elizabeth."
Lucky sobered, blushing noticeably as Mrs. Diamond gazed directly into his eyes. He looked down, examining the floor as he tried to find the right words to ask his question.
"I guess I should just come right out and say it, right?"
"That would probably be best Law, yes."
"I was just wondering." Lucky paused picking at imaginary lint on his pants. "I was wondering if it was against the rule for Elizabeth and I to make love before the anniversary of my death?"
Mrs. Diamond was taken aback by Lucky's question and her expression revealed her surprise. She stared at Lucky for a long moment her eyes wide and her mouth hanging.
Lucky groaned and slumped back into the chair. "I knew it, it's against the rules, isn't it? We have to wait until the anniversary of my death or this deal is off, right?"
