''He's not moving Ruby, why isn't he moving, he's still, he's still, why is he so still, shouldn't he get up now, it's been awhile,'' said Brenda watching Law's body completely nervous for Lucky who soul had been placed into Law's body a few minutes earlier.
''Brenda, why are you nervous, it will be ok Law has crossed over and has been reunited with his family and Lucky has his second chance,'' said Dominique watching the body carefully while giving Brenda encouragement.
Ruby asked everyone to be quiet as the body began moving, slightly at first and then making sudden jerky movements. ''He's taken over,'' whispered Brenda eyes wide open watching the miracle taking place below.
''Oh this is going to be good, oh Ruby this is going to be very good,'' said Bill rubbing his hands together excited despite his earlier reluctance to watch everything unfold as oppose to joining the poker gang.
Earth, Wall Street, Office of Lawrence Scott, Manhattan, NY:
Lucky came slowly awake, but was quickly propelled forward by the choking feeling that threatened to overwhelmed him causing him to thrash around the room wildly.
Knocking papers off the desk, turning over a coffee table Lucky finally made it to open door that housed a private bathroom. Rushing over to the toilet he immediately began spewing out whatever was choking him. He felt like he was throwing up he entire insides as the milky white liquid continued to pour from his mouth and then suddenly it was over and he fell limply against the bathroom wall.
After a few minutes Lucky stood up and washed his mouth, automatically brushing his teeth with the toothbrush available still not yet aware of himself or his surroundings, just acting on automatic.
Above:
''What's he doing? I would have thought he would be going crazy by now trying to figure out what's happening to him,'' said Stone watching Lucky with a puzzled look on his face.
''He is not aware yet of himself or what he's doing. It will take awhile before his mind catches up with his new body and his surroundings, so right now he's on auto pilot,'' said Ruby.
''Say Ruby you never did tell us how you found out about this to begin with?'' Asked Sheryl, curious. ''I was talking the matter over one day with St. Paul and he mentioned the provision upon learning about the situation.
He introduced me to a couple of folks here who had utilized this provision for their loved ones and that's when I decided to bring it to our little group. Unfortunately everyone was so busy focusing their attention on hoping Lucky would walk into the light no one paid much attention to me when I initially brought the subject up, until yesterday that is.''
''Sorry, Ruby it was a good idea, but we were just so concern that Lucky would get stuck, I still am, but I think this will work out better,'' said Dominique still watching the scene below.
''How much longer Ruby?'' Inquired Brenda excitedly. ''Any minute now I would imagine,'' answered Ruby. ''He will first realized that he's no longer in Port Charles with Liz and then he will become aware, let's watch and see.''
Earth, Lawrence's office:
Lucky stumbled out of the bathroom and automatically began picking up the papers on the ground placing them on the desk arranging and rearranging them in a pile before crossing to sit in the chair behind the desk.
Seeing the 10 empty tablets bottles sitting on the table he began absently moving them around and around before suddenly sitting straight upright. ''Elizabeth, where is Elizabeth,'' Lucky yelled looking frantically around at the unfamiliar surrounding getting up and circling the room a horrified Look on his face.
''Where am I.'' whispered Lucky looking up but not finding the light that had become his constant companion for the last 10 months. Feeling lost and disoriented Lucky tried concentrating on the last thing he could recall.
He had been watching Elizabeth work at Kelly's when suddenly he had felt himself pulled backwards hard and then there was darkness and nothingness and the next thing he knew he was sitting in the chair, behind the desk in this strange room.
''Where is Elizabeth?'' Lucky whispered feeling desperation descend upon him as he searched for the door grabbing and turning the door knob forgetting that he had began walking through doors now that his physical body didn't exist.
''Mr. Scott may I help you sir? Mr. Scott, Mr. Scott, Sir are you ok,'' asked the woman outside the office running after Lucky as he stride out the other door and began making his way towards the elevator. ''Mr. Scott,'' said the woman grabbing onto Lucky's arms when she finally caught up with him.
Lucky looked at the woman who was looking at him with concern in her eyes failing to notice that he could actually feel her hands on his arms. ''Mr. Scott are you alright sir, you seem lost, is there something I can do for you sir, where are you going?'' Rambled the woman.
''Mr. Scott?'' Asked Lucky finally realizing that she could see him and that he could feel her touch. Lucky looked down at her hand on his arm before slowly looking back up at her. Seeing obvious recognition on the face of the woman he had never seen before sent a shock through Lucky.
Looking down quickly at himself he note the expensive tailored suit he was wearing and felt the unfamiliar feeling of his body. Slowly he stretched both arms out in front of him and jumped back startled at his larger sized hands and the ring displayed prominently on his ring finger.
Lucky looked quickly at the woman who was regarding him strangely, their eyes met and it finally sunk in that he was a living breathing man standing there in the unfamiliar building with the unfamiliar woman.
''Mr. Scott, sir you are scaring me a little, wouldn't you like to return to your office and sit down while I fix you a nice cup of tea sir,'' inquired the strange woman placing her hand gingerly on Lucky's shoulder.
Lucky continued to stare at the woman for a few seconds before allowing her to lead him back to the room he had just vacated. He sunk slowly into the chair behind the desk a look of bewilderment on his face.
Once he was settled into the chair the woman went away hurriedly muttering that she would be back shortly with a nice hot cup of tea. Lucky ran his fingers through his hair a confused look on his face.
''I am dead,'' whispered Lucky, ''I watched my body burned to a crisp, I watched them bury me, they couldn't see me, no one could. I yelled I shouted at everyone, but they couldn't hear me. Now suddenly I am here, I don't know where and there is a strange lady acting like she's known me forever offering me tea.''
Lucky looked again at the clothes he was wearing and again stretched out his hands to examine them reaching out to touch the ring on his left finger. He pulled his hand away quickly as though he had touched fire before jumping up and walking around the room back wards in circles looking all around him.
Seeing the door leading to what appeared to be a bathroom he went in and walked directly to the mirror gasping and jumping backwards at the reflection staring back at him. Lucky's heart began racing, his pulse began beating rapidly and he began sweating profusely staring at the image in the mirror.
''That's me,'' whispered Lucky reaching up and touching his face, ''only it's not really me, it can't be me.'' Lucky noticed the size of him, his width and height, ''I am taller, broader, older,'' said Lucky taking a closer look at himself in the mirror.
''Oh god what is happening to me,'' cried Lucky before a sudden thought struck him, maybe I am just dreaming, thought Lucky. Maybe I lost my memory, maybe Elizabeth and I are living under different names and it's years from when I recall. Maybe this has all been just an awful nightmare, the fire, the funeral, the last 10 months.
Lucky pinched himself hard again and again, but all he accomplished was pain and the nagging feeling that he was indeed awake and experiencing something he had no idea what.
Getting another idea he dashed into the next room going directly to the phone, but was interrupted by the strange woman who returned balancing a tray in one hand.
''Here we go Mr. Scott,'' said the woman handing Lucky a steaming cup of tea, ''now you drink this right down and you will feel better in no time.
Lucky took the cup from her and smiled slightly before taking a sip. Satisfied the woman turned and left after making him promise to call her if he needed anything else.
As soon as the door closed behind her Lucky put aside the cup of tea and snatched up the phone dialing quickly. ''Kelly's, this is Elizabeth how may I help you, hello, hello, is anyone there,'' asked Elizabeth waiting another second before hanging up.
Lucky sat for another minute staring unseeingly ahead the phone still in his hand. Hearing the beep that signal replacing the phone to its cradle Lucky snapped back to life. Reclining back in the deep comfortable chair Lucky massaged his temple unsure as to his next course of action.
Getting up he paced the length of the spacious room, unaware of the luxury around him. Getting another idea he returned to the chair he had just vacated, picked up the phone and dialed again.
''Luke's, Babe speaking how may I help you.'' Disguising his voice Lucky began. ''I have been out of Port Charles for the last four years and I sort of lost touch with my old friend Lucky Spencer, is there anyway I can talk you into giving me his number?''
There was a long pause on the other end of the line before Babe responded. ''I am sorry to have to be the one to inform you of this, but Lucky Spencer died 10 months ago. I am so sorry, but he died in an accident in his apartment, again I am so sorry to be the one to tell you this. Would you like to speak to his father?''
Lucky hung up the phone quickly before she could continue, replacing the phone slowly he stared in shock ahead. How can this be he's dead, but yet here he is. Lucky began laughing hysterically at the way he was thinking about himself, but sobered after a few seconds.
Lucky look down at himself again trying to convince himself that he was indeed there. ''I have to clear my head,'' whispered Lucky getting up and striding for the door yanking it shut behind him, again lost in thought. ''Mr. Scott?'' Came the voice of the strange woman.
Lucky stopped in his tracks and turned to her smiling, ''I am leaving,'' he said simply. She recovered from her surprise to quickly reach for the phone and ordered someone to bring the car around for Mr. Scott.
Lucky stood there trying not to give away his surprise, deciding to go along with whatever this was until he could figure out what was happening.
Looking down and noticing the name plate on the woman's desk Lucky said, ''thank you Ms. Carpenter.'' ''You are welcome sir, oh you are forgetting your briefcase, now what would you do without it, I will just go and retrieve it for you.''
Lucky thanked the woman again when she returned with the briefcase. She gave him a bright indulging smile before returning to her work. Sensing that it was safe to leave Lucky walked out the door, got on the elevator and punched lobby hoping it would take him to the car Carmen Carpenter had mentioned.
As soon as he got off the elevator he noticed the doorman smiling at him. ''Your car is waiting Mr. Scott,'' said the doorman opening the door to allow Lucky to pass through. Directly outside the building stood a waiting limousine and driver who was holding the door open for him and smiling formally at him.
Getting into the car Lucky took in the expensive leather and the well stacked bar not to mention every modern convenience known to man.
He sat in uncomfortable silence glancing down from time to time at his body not yet feeling comfortable with his larger size. I must be almost as tall as dad, Lucky thought examining his longer limbs.
He felt heavier somehow and contributed it to his broader built, somehow sensing that he would become accustom to the different feeling in time.
''In time,'' whispered Lucky, ''my time was up 10 months ago, what is this some weird reincarnation, but I don't believe in reincarnation, besides shouldn't I be a little baby if that's what happened,'' mumbled Lucky unaware that the driver was watching him through the rearview mirror.
Lucky jumped when the driver's voice cut into his thoughts, ''I'm sorry,'' said Lucky recovering quickly and addressing the man who was giving him a strange look.
''I was asking if you were saying something to me,'' said the driver wishing he had kept his mouth shut, since obviously Mr. Scott was talking to himself. He felt sorry for his employer who has not been the same since the death of his beautiful wife.
''No, nothing,'' answered Lucky feeling uneasy under the scrutiny of the unfamiliar man. Lucky turned to look out the window noticing for the first time where he was.
''Manhattan,'' whispered Lucky glancing quickly at the driver who was watching him again. I have got to stop talking out loud, thought Lucky glancing again out the window.
A few minutes later the car came to a stop on Fifth Avenue before a very impressive building. Lucky got out shakily mentally kicking himself as the driver dashed around to him obviously surprised that Lucky had not waited on him to open the car door.
Lucky raked his hands through his hair before walking briskly towards the doors of the impressive building ahead. As soon as he neared the door it was swung opened for him by a uniformed doorman who smiled at him. ''Good afternoon Mr. Scott,'' said the doorman, ''good afternoon,'' returned Lucky quietly.
Seeing the line of elevators to one side Lucky walked towards them hoping his luck would hold a while longer. As he neared the elevators he noticed that one of them had the name Scott engraved in bronze so he walked directly to that one.
Lucky studied the elevator for a second but could find no buttons instead he saw what appeared to be a key slot. Patting himself he searched for the magical key that would fit the slot, but found none. Getting an idea he kneeled placing his briefcase on the ground to open and search for the key.
After a few seconds he located a key chain with the name Lawrence engraved on it and attach to it dangled two strange looking keys. Removing the keys from the briefcase Lucky tried fitting first one then the other into the key hole, the second fitted perfectly causing the doors to slid open.
Inside the elevator Lucky found three buttons one marked lobby, the other garage and the third Penthouse, he choose the third before slumping down into the comfortable seat behind him.
''Man, this is too much I have to find out what's going on here,'' whispered Lucky tensing when the elevator came to a stop and the doors slid open revealing a spacious hallway with a large door directly ahead.
Lucky eyed the door nervously, before walking slowly forward and trying the other key in the lock. The door opened revealing a large richly decorated foyer. To one side sat a several partially opened doors and to the other a large marbled staircase.
Lucky stood uneasily in the middle of the foyer trying to decide what to do next. ''Perhaps I should just have the driver take me to Port Charles and figure out what to do from their,'' whispered Lucky eyes closed still hoping he would wake up and everything would all have been just a long nightmare.
''Mr. Scott, I weren't expecting you so soon sir,'' announced a deep voice from behind Lucky. Lucky jumped startled then slowly turned around to greet the distinguished dressed middle aged man who was looking at him questioningly.
''I am sorry?'' Questioned Lucky trying to appear calm even though he was screaming on the inside wondering what the heck was going on and why everyone obviously thought he was Mr. Scott.
''I am sorry sir, I was just not expecting you home so soon and you entered so quietly I didn't hear you,'' said the man.
Lucky wished he knew who the man was, but knew that he was expected to know him so he decided to just live in ignorance for the time being. ''I was tired, so I decided to call it a day,'' responded Lucky, noting the man's look of surprise.
''Mr. Scott,'' announced another surprised voice, this time female. Lucky turned to watch carefully dressed middle aged woman descend the stairs briskly. ''I wasn't expecting you sir, is there something wrong sir, would you like me to do something for you?'' Inquired the woman concerned etched on her face.
Lucky smiled, ''I can't come home early without there being something wrong,'' said Lucky lightly, not wanting anything to appear amiss. ''Of course you can sir, I have been wanting you to take some time off for quite sometime now,'' said the woman.
''I finally decided that you are right, so here I am,'' said Lucky smiling broadly even though inside he felt like he was going insane.
''I will get Leo for you then sir, he just got up from his nap,'' ''Leo?'' Asked Lucky unable to concealed his shock. ''Yes, Leo, you know that 22lbs bundle of joy you call your son,'' chuckled the woman at Lucky indulgently. ''It really is good that you've decided to take some time off, Leo will love it, he's been babbling for daddy since he got up from his nap.''
Lucky paled and swayed slightly causing the man to dash quickly to his side, ''are you ok Mr. Scott?'' Asked the man looking worried. ''Yes, I am fine,'' said Lucky recovering quickly. ''I just need to get a glass of water and sit down for a minute, will you please bring the baby to me,'' said Lucky to the woman before following the man into what appeared to be a den.
After accepting a drink of water from the man and sitting in the deep comfortable reclining chair Lucky searched his mind for any clues as to what could be happening to him coming up with no explanation that made sense.
The phone next to the recliner rang and Lucky automatically answered it. ''Hello,'' ''Mr. Scott, its Ms. Carpenter sir,'' ''yes, Ms. Carpenter,'' answered Lucky wearily. ''Sir, I was just calling to see whether you will be in the office the rest of the week or whether you would like me to reschedule your meetings.
Lucky paused to think for a second and then deciding that until he could figure out what was going on it was best to simple avoid everything unfamiliar, of course that would be everything at the moment.
''Yes Ms. Carpenter, please postponed everything indefinitely as I am not certain when I will be back,'' said Lucky. ''Very well sir, I will take care of everything and if there's anything I can do, please don't hesitate to let me know.'' ''Thank you Ms. Carpenter,'' said Lucky hanging up.
That taken care of Lucky sat back and considered the matter of the baby, wondering how he could possible be someone's father. Looking down at his finger he noted the ring again and knew that there was no way he could be someone's husband, he belonged to Elizabeth Webber that was the only thing he knew for certain right now.
The door opened and the woman came in carrying a beautiful baby boy who immediately stretched out his arms to be held as soon as he saw Lucky. Lucky didn't hesitate he took the laughing baby smiling in awe of the child's exuberance at seeing him.
Lucky was amazed at how much the child looked like him it was like looking at a miniature version of himself. He immediately felt connected to the child as if he really were the child's father, even though Lucky knew that had to be impossible.
After a few hours of playing with the child who never seem to tire of saying dada he handed him back to the woman who's name he learned when she took the child saying ''come to Ms. Worthington Leonard.'' Lucky breathed a sigh of relief happy at least that he knew the name of the woman.
Walking out onto the balcony Lucky surveyed the scene before him. From his vantage point he could see a large section of Central Park and looking at the snow covered trees calmed him briefly. ''I have to find out what's going on here, I can't even imagine what has happened to me.
Do I exist? I have to, I am here, alive and in the flesh, but everyone in Port Charles thinks Lucky is dead, yet I am Lucky even though I witnessed my own funeral. How can this be? Everyone here, at least the people I have already met seem to think I am Mr. Scott, according to the key chain, Lawrence.
I am taller and broader and seemingly older, yet I have no knowledge of growing older, I have no knowledge except that of Lucky, but Lucky died, yet I am Lucky.''
Returning to the den Lucky sat burying his face into his palms. He felt like his head would split in too thinking about what was happening to him, there were no explanation that made sense, none and Lucky knew that he would go insane if something didn't give.
Lucky straightened surveying the room for the first time and seeing what appeared to be an album on the coffee table Lucky picked it up and began thumping through the pages.
The first picture he encountered was one of him with a beautiful young brunette in wedding attire. The caption below reads Lawrence and Leona Scott, June 6, 1996. Lucky swallowed hard before continuing to the next pictures also of him with the beautiful brunette in different wedding poses.
Further into the album there were pictures of the two of them and Leo from the time he was a tiny baby. The brunette did not appeared in any more pictures after the first few pictures with Leo, then afterwards it was only pictures of him and the baby. Lucky noted that the smile that had been on his face throughout was no longer there and he seemed almost distant in all the remaining pictures with Leo.
Lucky heard a gasp from behind him and turned to see the look of horror on Mrs. Worthington's face. ''Oh, Mr. Scott I am so sorry, I shouldn't have left that there, I know you wanted to keep recording Leo's growth, so I was going to transfer the baby's picture another album. I am so sorry sir, I got distracted and was unable to complete the task.''
Lucky gave her a comforting smile. ''It's ok Mrs. Worthington really, I am ok.'' ''You are being generous sir, but I know that the last thing you needed to see is pictures of happier times to make you sad now that Mrs. Scott is gone to heaven,'' cried Mrs. Worthington.
Lucky walked over and without thinking gather the distressed woman into his arms and comforted her. ''It's ok Mrs. Worthington sometimes it good to remember happier times during not so happy times,'' said Lucky pulling away and regarding Mrs. Worthington fondly.
After a few more minutes of assuring Mrs. Worthington that everything was indeed ok she left to do whatever it was she did, Lucky assumed it was taking care of the house and Leo. Getting a thought Lucky left room and began searching through the other rooms in the house until he found what he was looking for, a computer.
Above:
''Excellent, now we are getting somewhere,'' said Stone smiling broadly as he watched the progress below. Brenda nodded ''yep now we are getting somewhere, research.''
''That's my boy, I knew he would scope it out eventually. That Spencer in him refuse to sit back and be confused it's time to get some answers,'' declared Ruby proudly.
''I can't wait for him to figure this out so we can pick up the pace a little,'' said Bill. ''Bill come on what did you expect, Lucky just woke up a short while ago in a older, taller, larger body that he doesn't recognize. He's having people he doesn't recognized address him as someone he doesn't know, admit it that's unsettling and if you ask me he's handling this surprisingly well. Most people would have ended up in an insane asylum if they had this experience,'' said Dominique impressed with Lucky's progress thus far.
''Yea, I guess you are right, but I just can't wait for him to find out and get to Port Charles already, can't wait to see peoples face when he turns up in town,'' said Bill rubbing his hands together in glee.
Ruby shook her head disapprovingly at Bill who ignored the look and continued to watch the scene below whispering, ''this is going to be good, this is going to be good.''
Kelly's, Port Charles:
Elizabeth sat outside Kelly's having just ended her shift for the day. She had been distracted all afternoon ever since she received the phone call from the unnamed caller. As soon as she answered the call her heart Had began beating rapidly and as she had waited to hear who it was with a feeling of excited anticipation.
For the last several hours she's felt more loss than she ever had since Lucky's death, before she was desperately miserable, but she had felt a sense comfort almost as if he was with her still. Then all of sudden it was like he was gone from her and now all she felt was cold and empty.
She decided that the phone call just disturbed her because the caller had not made him or herself known. ''I have to get on with it,'' whispered Elizabeth, ''Lucky would want me to get on with it, but I am so miserable without you Lucky, I miss you so much.''
Liz looked up when she heard footsteps coming towards Kelly's and upon seeing Nicholas quickly got up and ducked around the corner before he spotted her. ''That was close,'' said Liz as she arrived out of breath at the docks.
Penthouse, Manhattan:
''Ok, let me see what category would this phenomenon fall under,'' whispered Lucky as he got into the search engine on the net. ''Now what heading do I give for the topic, Dead man walking around in older cloned body?'' Chuckled Lucky unable to ignore the humor of the situation despite his utter confusion and longing to see Elizabeth.
''Well the only thing I can think of is Reincarnation,'' said Lucky although convinced that wasn't the case. He quickly typed in the word and waited to see what was available under the topic. There were over 3,000 topics to choose from eliciting an exasperated groan from Lucky.
Going to advanced search he added Body Switch which significantly narrowed the topics down. ''Much better,'' mumbled Lucky rubbing his hands together another idea popping into his head.
From there he included Death and Body Switch and waited while the computer showed those topics. ''Twelve,'' said Lucky happy with the results. Starting from the top he began going down the list of topics shocked when he came to the title of a book called Second Chances by Mary Diamond. The synopsis to the book read:
A series of stories depicting the dead who finds themselves in a living body. Experience the miracle as author Mary Diamond traces This phenomenon over three hundred years.Lucky stared at the synopsis reading it over and over again. ''O my god, that's me,'' said Lucky printing out the screen and a jumping to his feet. ''I have to get to the bookstore,'' said Lucky going out the door mumbling to him self. ''What about the fact that I am a replica of my other self, just taller.''
''Sir?'' Said Mrs. Worthington looking at Lucky questioningly. ''I really need to stop speaking out loud,'' thought Lucky smiling at Mrs. Worthington. ''Nothing, Mrs. Worthington, I just need to run out to the bookstore and pick up a book,'' explained Lucky.
''Oh, why don't I call the bookstore and have them deliver what you need sir, no need to run back out,'' said Mrs. Worthington smiling gentle at him. ''What's the name of the book and author sir,'' inquired Mrs. Worthington.
Lucky paused for a second, but then decided there would be no harm in allowing her to do as she suggested. Lucky told her the name of the book and author, not wanting to give her the print out with the synopsis included on it.
Mrs. Worthington nodded and quickly left to take care of ordering the book leaving Lucky to wait impatiently in the den for the purchase to arrive.
Peytonville, New York
''Well, well, well seems like somebody has an interview with the parole board coming up,'' said the warden leering at Tom Baker from the other side of the bars. ''Big Jon is really going to miss you if you leave isn't he Mrs. Jon,'' sneered the warden who was hoping that the parole board denied Tom's release.
He hated the man and what he was accused of doing. Although Tom had been sent to prison for blackmail everyone knew the crimes he was not being punished for.
As soon as the man left Tom Baker reached under his bunk and pulled out the crumpled article of Lucky Spencer's death. ''He won't be around to protect you from me this time Elizabeth, you're mine,'' said Tom a quiet sinister laugh escaping his throat. Looking ahead he began plotting how he would get his revenge on Elizabeth Webber and Emily Quartermaine.
