"You're letting me go?" Liz repeated, shocked by Lucky's statement.
"Please, explain to me why, make me understand."
Lucky ran a hand through his hair nervously and looked to the ground.
He
couldn't look her in the eye, if he did he'd lose all his nerve. "Elizabeth
if I don't free you I'm only going to ruin your life."
"Ruin my life Lucky? How, you are the best thing to ever happen to
me. If
anything, you not being in my life ruins it," she said passionately,
tears
forming in her eyes.
"But don't you see, everything bad that has ever happened to you has
been,
in some form, my fault."
"Really? Please, elaborate Lucky, because I'm still not understanding,"
Liz
said as her heart broke.
"We don't have to go through this, we both know our history, why open
those
wounds again," Lucky pleaded.
"No, if you are going to throw away what we have, I want you to tell
me
exactly why. Why are you giving up on us?"
"Ok, I'll start from the beginning. Why'd you get into trouble with
those
test papers and everything? Cause I liked Sarah so you wanted to ruin
her
life."
"Lucky, that is so far fetched, I wanted to ruin Sarah's life long
before I
met you," Liz said with an angry laugh.
"Ok, what about the rape. It was my fault, if I met you at the dance
like
we planned, it wouldn't have happened."
"I can't believe you are doing this . . .Lucky it was Tom Baker's fault.
He
raped me; Baker and only Baker are responsible. Not you and not me.
I
thought we cleared this up when we were sixteen?"
"How about my death, and ten years of mourning for you and everyone.
You
yourself said I should have found a better way. Well now I've found
one,
I'm taking myself out of your life so you can have one. I'm a Spencer;
danger just follows me around. And if anything happened to you, because
of
me," Lucky shook his head and wiped a tear from his eye.
"I see," Liz whispered, a determined look in her eye. "Good bye Lucky,"
she
nodded before walking out of the room. She wasn't about to give up
on the
one person she was destined to be with. She was going to make Lucky
see
that nothing could keep them apart.
Chris stood at the main desk on the 9th floor of the hospital, looking
over
some charts, when a pair of hands covered his eyes from behind.
"Guess who?"
"Joan Crawford?" he joked.
"Silly," Karen said with a laugh, smacking him on the arm.
"Oh, Karen, I had no idea it was you," he said in an exaggerated tone.
"So
what are you up to?"
"I just came to rescue you from an evening of whatever it is you normally
make yourself for dinner in that condo. What do you say, join me for
dinner
at . . .well, wherever?"
"I don't know . . ." Chris shrugged his shoulders. He was still feeling
somewhat raw after breaking up with Liz, but Karen had always been
a great
friend, he couldn't see why not. "Sure, but first I have to check on
a
patient, then I'm off duty."
"Great, I'll meet you in the main lobby in twenty minutes," Karen said
with
a smile before running off.
Chris looked down at the charts of his last patient and laughed. "Isn't
it
ironic pal, you get shot up and you win the girl, I play hero to save
you
and get squat."
Lucky laid in his bed sleeping. After "breaking up" with Liz, he was
left
emotionally drained; it was the hardest thing he ever did. He still
loved
her, he would always love her, with everything he had. But he was so
afraid
of losing her it seemed like the best thing to do. But it tore him
up
inside, knowing that in his effort not to hurt her, he probably did.
Lucky's eyes flew open as he heard a knocking at his door. "Come in,"
he
called out.
"Hi Lucky," Chris said cordially as he walked in the room. "How are
you
doing, how are the wounds feeling?"
"I was shot twice in the gut, how do you think it feels?"
"I thought Dr. Wexler put you on some pain killers this morning, aren't
they effective?"
"Yeah, don't worry about it, I'm feeling fine. Actually the nurse just
checked my bandages so they are fine, what I really need is to be alone.
So
doctor, I won't tell if you don't . . .can you just leave?"
Chris smirked and checked the bandage on Lucky's shoulder. "That looks
fine, and I'm sure the nurse took good care of your abdomen. If you
have
any problems just ring the nurses and they'll come check on you. Dr.
Matt
Harmon is on duty tonight, he'll check on your abdomen later. But if
you
need anything, have them page me," Chris said before leaving the room.
"Hey Ramsey!" Lucky called out, wincing in pain as he shifted in the
bed.
"Yeah Lucky?"
"Take care of her, please."
"Take care of who?" Chris asked, confused.
"Elizabeth, be good to her, if you don't I'll kill you," Lucky said
seriously.
"That wouldn't be under my job heading Lucky. Why are you saying this,
we
broke up this morning. She chose you Lucky, I would think taking care
of
Liz would be your job. See you around," Chris said closing the door.
Lucky slammed his head back down on the pillows, thoroughly disgusted
with
himself. "What the hell have I done."
"Carly, Carly! Are you home?" Liz said pounding on the door to the
penthouse.
"I told you she isn't home Miss Webber, I would have seen her come
in,"
Johnny sighed, his arm in a sling from where he was shot.
"Whatever, when she gets back, tell her to either call me or meet me
at
Kelly's, I need to talk to her right away."
"Will do . . .is there anything else?" Johnny asked when Liz didn't
walk away.
"Yeah, where have Sonny and Jason been?"
"They had to go away on business."
"What kind of business?" Liz prodded.
"I can't say, I'll pass that message along to Mrs. Corinthos for you
though," Johnny smiled.
"Johnny stop it!" Liz yelled. After her conversation with Lucky earlier
in
the day her nerves had been fried. "You've known me and Carly for how
long
now, just call us by our first names, please. I'm Liz. Say it, Liz."
"If that is what you want Miss . . .Liz," Johnny said correcting himself.
"Good, now, don't forget, tell Carly I need her right away," Liz ordered.
The elevator door quickly slid open and she stepped in.
"Hey Johnny," Emily smiled as she walked out of the elevator.
"Miss Quartermaine?"
"Yeah Johnny?"
"Has Miss Web . . .Liz lost her mind?" he cracked.
"Why do you say that?"
"She just flipped out on me for calling her Miss Webber, and she seems
a
little on edge."
"Well, I think everything that has happened lately is just getting
to her.
Bye Johnny," Emily noted when the elevator doors opened again.
Liz sat at a table in Kelly's, drumming her fingers nervously on it.
"That's it, Johnny should be fired, he never gives Carly my messages,"
she
muttered to herself.
"Liz honey, are you alright?" Tammy asked coming up to the table and
pouring Liz a glass of water.
"Oh what? Um, I'm . . ." she looked up and saw Carly come walking through
the door to the diner. "There you are! Finally."
"Liz, what is wrong? You have poor Johnny all freaked out. He called
me
Miss Carly today, like we live on some southern plantation," Carly
laughed
as she sat down.
"Would you two like to order?" Tammy asked.
"I'll have a bowl of chili, so will Carly," Liz said rapidly.
"Yeah, that is what we'll have, thanks Tammy," Carly said politely.
"Now
Liz, please tell me what the manic mood is all about."
"He broke up with me, can you believe him?"
"That was very noble of him, I think. He did the right thing, I thought
you
would be touched," Carly noted.
"Touched, he had no right to end anything, none. I can't believe he
did
that. That's why I need you. You have to help me prove to him that
it is
not over."
"But why?" Carly asked. "I thought you wanted to be with Lucky, why
would
you want to prove to Chris it is not over?"
"Chris? I'm talking about Lucky. He told me that he was letting me
go
because being with him was putting me in danger. I'm sure he thought
he was
being noble, but he was really being an idiot."
"Lucky broke up with you? What?" Carly paused and thought for a moment.
"This looks like a job for the master schemer and her protégé!"
Carly smiled.
"I thought you'd say that," Liz said with a laugh.
Carly raised her water glass. "To proving to that knuckle head of a
cousin
of mine that you and he must be together."
"To me and Lucky," Liz said in accordance as the two ladies clinked
their
glasses together.
Sly walked into Lucky's hospital room to find him attempting to get
dressed. "What the hell are you doing?" he shouted.
"I'm getting out of here," Lucky muttered as he tried to hide his pain.
"No, you are getting back in that bed and getting yourself healed,
got it,"
Sly ordered, forcing Lucky back into the bed.
"I can't stay here, I'll go crazy. Besides I have a few things to take
care
of back in Arizona," Lucky winced as Sly forced him back in the bed.
"You can take care of whatever you have to do once you are released
from
the hospital. If I have to tie you to this bed you are staying here."
"Fine . . .so Sly, what's up with you? I saw you were with Dr. Wexler
at
the party the other day. What's that all about?" Lucky asked, trying
to
make small talk.
"We were dating but we are just friends now . . .Lucky why do you have
to
go back to Arizona?" Sly asked, turning the conversation back on his
cousin.
"There are a few things that I left in my room that I would like."
"Tell you what, I'll go get them for you. That way you can stay here
in
this hospital bed and not worry about getting your stuff. Besides,
don't
you have to stay here to fight for your love?"
"I do, don't I?" Lucky said to himself. "Sly I did something really
stupid
this afternoon."
"What did your stupid Spencer pride make you do?"
"I kind of . . .Sly, I broke up with Elizabeth. I broke up with her
and we
weren't even together, how twisted is that?" Lucky laughed.
"You are an idiot. And you were going to go back to Arizona to get
what? A
book, an album? You have to stay here and get her back. I know she
loves
you and I know you love her. Don't be an idiot Lucky. I've learned
the hard
way that love isn't something you can create or destroy, it just exists.
If
you don't fight to get Liz back, I'm going to hit you in the face.
And I'm
a much better fighter than your brother is," Sly threatened with a
laugh.
"You're right. Sly will you help me win the heart of your ex-wife?"
Lucky
joked, determined to right the wrong he created.
