Later, at the Spencer house, Lucky, Liz, Emily, Luke and Laura were preparing for the guests Laura had invited over. They were expecting the Quartermaines, along with Bobbie, Amy, and Lucy Lucky had wanted to invite Sonny, but Laura thought it was better to call him and tell him privately. "What about Jason?" he asked. Laura's eyes widened and she looked at Elizabeth. Liz shook her head slightly to let Laura know she hadn't told Lucky about Jason yet.
"Um, Lucky," she began. "Can we take a little walk outside for a minute? There's something I need to talk to you about before everyone gets here."
"Sure," he answered. He grabbed their jackets and took her hand. But just then the doorbell rang. "Uh-oh, I guess we'll have to talk later, it's showtime," he sighed dropping the jackets. He was looking forward to seeing everyone, but Lucky didn't like being in the spotlight, and he was uncomfortable knowing he was going to be in it now, and probably the talk of the town for awhile. He was aware of butterflies in his stomach as he glanced at Elizabeth nervously.
She squeezed his hand and whispered, "It'll be over soon." She was a little worried that she hadn't had a chance to talk to him about Jason yet, but she supposed it could wait awhile.
Laura went to open the door, but first advised Lucky to wait in the kitchen. That way, they could wait until everyone was there, and explain everything at once. So Lucky and Elizabeth retreated to the kitchen to wait. Finally, everyone was assembled in the living room.
Luke stood up to address the little group. "I guess you're wondering why we called you all here today..."
Lucy interrupted him excitedly, "I know! You and Laura are getting back together!" She jumped up from her seat and ran over to hug Luke. "I knew you two couldn't stay apart. You know what they say, True Love always prevails, right?"
When she stopped to take a breath, Luke gently untangled her arms from her neck. "No, Luce, that's not what it's about."
Edward spoke up gruffly from his seat. "Well, would you tell us what the devil's going on? Some of us have work to do today! I could be loafing around in my own living room." He glared at Luke expectantly.
"Edward, please!" scolded Monica. "Give him a chance, and besides, it's MY living room you're referring to."
"The one that I gave you," put in Alan. At that, everyone started talking at once.
Luke put two fingers in his mouth and whistled shrilly. "Excuse me! If you would all quiet down for a minute, I'll..." He was interrupted by the doorbell and he rolled his eyes and made a noise of disgust. "NOW what?" He opened the door. "Well, if it isn't my sweet little neice and her loving husband." He opened the door wider so that AJ and Carly could enter.
Carly glared at Luke. "Don't start on me! I wouldn't be here, but AJ insisted I play the devoted wife today."
"Couldn't you, just once, at least PRETEND to be civil?" growled AJ into her ear. Carly rolled her eyes and went to sit down by her mother.
"Really, Bobbie, can't you do something about your daughter's mouth?" asked Monica.
Bobbie shot back that controlling her childrens' behavior wasn't exactly Monica's strong suit either.
"Well!" said Monica, "What's THAT crack supposed to mean?" At that, the whole room errupted into the usual chaos that the Quartermaines brought with them wherever they went.
Luke watched for a second, shaking his head, then glanced over at Laura. She nodded and opened the kitchen door. Lucky stepped out cautiously, not sure if he wanted to get in the middle of these crazy people. He was followed by Elizabeth, and Emily, who had been keeping them company.
"How embarassing," whispered Emily. "I'm sorry Lucky, my family is nuts!" Lucky laughed and assured her that most families were, although hers were a little bit over the top. He waited a moment for the group to notice him, but when nobody did, he spoke. "Excuse me..." When that produced no results, he looked helplessly at Luke, who shrugged. "They're all yours cowboy." Lucky wasn't sure he wanted them, but he raised his voice. "HEY!"
This interruped Edward who was in the middle of making a point to Monica. "Young man, hasn't your father taught you that it's rude to interrupt your elders? Luke, you need to teach your son some..." He stopped mid-sentence and stared at Lucky. One by one the occupants of the room stopped yelling at each other, their eyes following Edward's. The room was finally completely silent, except for a couple of soft gasps.
Bobbie was the first to regain her power of speech. "Lucky? Is it you?" She slowly made her way across the room to stand in front of him and look into his eyes, her own filling with tears as she embraced him. This broke the ice, and the rest of the people in the room came forward to greet him. For the next couple of minutes chaos reigned again as everyone tried to hug him and were all asking at the same time what had happened. Finally the excitement died down and Laura passed out tissues, wiping her eyes herself. "If everyone could have a seat, we'll explain everything," said Luke.
Edward was the first to voice what most of them were thinking. "Spencer, what have you pulled this time? Is this like the time you all pretended Laura was dead?" As all the eyes in the room zoomed in on Luke, Lucy stepped to his defense. "No! They didn't do that...you didn't, did you pal?" she finished uncertainly.
"No. No!" answered Luke. "Lucky, do you want to tell this or do you want me to?"
Lucky took a deep breath. "I will." He stepped up next to Luke and began his story.
When he was finished, half of the people in the room were crying again, and everyone had to come and hug him one more time, then finally they were all getting ready to leave, and it was over, or so Lucky thought.
Carly had been as amazed as everyone else to see her cousin alive, but as she sat and watched Elizabeth smiling innocently next to him, anger and hatred boiled up anew in her. That little twit was the cause of all her problems. If it wasn't for her, Jason would be with her today. Before she left, she was able to get alone with Elizabeth and Lucky and she carefully dropped her little bombshell on them. "Lucky, it's great to see you. I hope I can get to know you now. Oh, and try not to be too hard on Elizabeth. The only reason she was sleeping with Jason was because she was so sad that you were gone. Right Lizzie?" She waited a calculated two or three seconds for that to sink in, then raised her eyebrows innocently. "Elizabeth, didn't you tell Lucky that Jason was living with you awhile back? Shame on you! Honesty is so important in a relationship." Seeing the dumbfounded look on Lucky's face, and the fury on Elizabeth's, Carly decided that her work was done. She gave them both a big smile and left. As she joined AJ outside, she felt a moment of regret for hurting Lucky. He'd been through enough. Oh well, it was better that he learned now what kind of little tramp he was hooked up with.
Inside the house Lucky was staring at Elizabeth. He hadn't believed Carly for a second, but when he turned to ask her what the hell that had been about, he saw guilt in her eyes. "Elizabeth, was Jason living with you?" he asked softly.
"Well, yes, that's what I was going to talk to you about," she began, but he cut her off.
"Save it. I don't need this right now." He grabbed his jacket and started for the front door, as Luke and Laura looked on in horror.
"Lucky!" Liz called tearfully "Wait! You don't understand..." The door slammed on her words.
