Harry of the Hart

Episode 4
Back in the White Hart collecting pots and working for the ever tyranical Jason, Harry is scratching out a living with his main desire  still to succeed for the White Hart.

It was the second week of the season and Harry reported to the Down Grange changing rooms with his boots waiting for his big chance to play for the Hart.  He had got to the ground early hoping his enthusiasm would impress manager Ade Smith.  As the minutes wore on and with only ten others available Harry fancied his chances of a game by default.  It was 10 past 10 and Ade was getting restless when in popped Deano and Geordie.  Dean was just habitually lazy about arrival times and Geordie had by his own omission been up drinking all night and had over slept a tad.  That was it Harry was reconciled to another game on the Judy alongside Sainsbury's Dave the other victim of the late arrivals.  Despite the previous weeks thrashing there was no way that Ade was going to let his ageing team down by daring to drop any of them.

The game set off at a furious pace against the Pullman with the play ebbing and flowing,  after 15 minutes a corner was half cleared and the ball returned with venom rocketing in the top corner.  1-0 to the Pullman.  From now on there was only one side in the game and but for a brief corner White Hart were soaking up untold pressure.  1-0 swiftly turned to 3-0 and an all too predictable result ensued.  With ten minutes to go Harry's dream was to come true Ade decided to use his substitutes on the basis that the game was lost and on went Sainbury's and Harry in replacement for the previous centre forward parnership of Ross and Clint.  The flow of the game continued in one direction however and shadows were the only thing left to chase.  That was until the 89th minute when a thunderous clearance from Toby reached a Pullman defender who was only able to head it into the path of one touch Sainsburys.  At this point its worth pointing out that one touch reflects the number of times he touches the ball in the game rather than his control ability.  Anyway this one touch was to fall into the path of Harry.  He lashed at the ball as hard as he could only for it to spanner off his right foot and take a deflection off a defender when previously it was heading for the corner flag and eventually crawl under the diving hapless figure of the Pullmans over weight goalkeeper.

Harry in his ignorance thought that the players would mob him with joy only to find that they were laughing at the irony that many of them had been spannering shots for years and not got a lucky break but here was Harry only ten minutes into his debut and a goal to his name.  As the game ended heartless Ade then put down own goal on the final teamsheet but Harry knew he had scored and was going to celebrate.

He drank kronenbourg he took a line of whizz from Kurt and he went back for more kronenbourg.  He was soon quite off his head.  Whereupon he breezed into Yates' singing "theres only one Harry Race one Harry RRRRace theres only one Harry Race" the barman told him to shut up and leave and after a short  protest he did.  However, some players from arch enemies the Hammer & Tongs overheard Harry bragging about his goal and followed him out of the bar.

"oi you ginger twat come ere" thud he took a blow to the back of the head. He fell and all he could now feel was boot leather as it made contact with his arm, his face and his body.  "now get bollocksed you White Hart scum" was the last he could remember as he drifted in unconciousness outside the Rhubar.

He awoke in hospital two days later without a memory of his disposition and Nurse Khanna telling him to take some water. He was dazed and couldn't understand where he had been.  "where am I" he asked. "your in Basingstoke hopital" the nurse replied. "what happened?" "you were beaten up for being ginger you can't be surprised at that can you".  Harry knew the situation Gingerness is an affliction and he really couldn't be too surprised if people turned nasty on him.

Nurse Khanna contacted Jason at the White Hart "he's here and awake come and get him" Jason quickly jumped in a cab and scolded him for missing two days pot collecting. "Pots don't collect themselves you know. To pay for your two day holiday you will have to work every hour the pub is open for a whole week and consider yourself lucky." "Thank you Jason" a grateful Harry replied."But can I play football on Sunday"

"Yes as long as you are back for opening time at 12" So with bruises all about his body and a glossy black eye Harry set about his thirteen hour day collecting glasses and clearing ashtray's once again and trapped inside the pub.  His only respite was a visit from the police investigating his attack. He explained that he could not remember anything but thought his attackers were Hammer & Tongs lads on a rare excursion into town.  The police stated that they would be issuing a report and that he would need to await the outcome.

With the White Hart now bottom of the league and a ginger Harry nursing his wounds and still offically goalless and told that he had to open the pub at 12 the next Sunday how would Harry ever get to make his mark on the football pitch.  What will he do next?  And what will the police do with his assailants from the Hammer & Tongs?
