Rabih Abou-Khalil
Lebanese oud and flutist Rabih Abou-Khalil merges traditional and modern Arabic styles and jazz, expanding the frontiers of each. His late-'80s and early-'90s albums included guest appearances from saxophonists Sonny Fortune and Charlie Mariano, as well as bassist Glen Moore, and contained several exciting collectively improvised sections plus intense solos. A follower of the great master Wadih Al-Safi, Abou-Khalil was forced into exile in 1978 by the continuing civil war in his homeland. |
