Playdough recipe

We are often asked for the recipe for playdough. There are several but this is the one that works for us.

200g plain flour
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
100g salt
300ml water
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
food colouring

Mix all ingredients together and heat slowly, stirring continuously until a soft dough is formed. We have been having fun adding variations to the dough - try colouring, glitter, perfume, herbs and spices.

Forming letters

When your child begins to form letters please encourage good habits from the start. Show your child how to hold the pencil and form letters correctly. Write names with a capital letter at the start with the rest in lower case.

Colour changing pens are brilliant for practising writing names or following right to left patterns.

Powder paint

When mixing powder paint adding a squirt of washing up liquid makes the paint keep longer without setting into a hard lump (its also easier to clean off the surfaces it strays onto)
