ABOUT THE PRESCHOOL
White Tree Preschool was started
in 1993 by Westbury Park Methodist church with the aim of providing a first
class preschool education within the context of the Christian faith for
children in the local community aged between three and five years. It is an integral part of the church's work
among young children.
Operating Times
White Tree Preschool runs Monday
to Friday from 9.15am to 12.00 noon at Westbury Park Methodist Church
Hall. Term dates are based on those of
the Local Education Authority including half-term holidays.
Premises and Equipment
White Tree Preschool meets in a
large, airy, carpeted hall. We
constantly review our equipment to ensure that it is appropriate, in good
condition and, especially, safe.
Staff
We run the Preschool with an
adult to child ratio of at least 1:8. We have up
to five paid qualified members of staff at each session. Parents and carers are
welcome to help at any time.
Aims Of The Preschool
The preschool adheres to the aim
of the Preschool Learning Alliance, to promote the intellectual, spiritual,
social and emotional development of children below compulsory school age.
It plans to do this by:
- creating a caring and happy atmosphere where each
child is valued, their needs recognised and their confidence and
independence develops in a safe and stimulating environment
- encouraging links with the Christian Church,
- providing qualified staff and helpers that recognise that the development of children's
language is of prime importance and facilitate this development through
engaging the child in conversation, directing their activities and joining
in their play situations,
- the provision of structured activities so that
'learning through play' is successful and progressive, developing the
child's concentration and abilities,
- providing opportunities for the development of
social skills and times to experience small group and larger group
situations,
- providing time for physical development and control
through activities such as bike-riding, balancing and ball skills,
- the provision of a wide range of activities in art
and music and drama, to gain self-awareness and confidence in the world
around them.
- allowing
the freedom to discover and to learn from mistakes
- enabling
choice and decision making
- involving
parents and carers and valuing their contributions
- adhering to
the ‘Quality standards in day care and education services for pre-school
children’
