Stoagies, Beer, & Questions for the Tenda |

A nice cigar and a cold beer. Is there anything more relaxing after a hard day than a smoke and glass of suds? We don't think so, and this is our section for some of the fine brands you may find at Whitey's Pub on any given day. We'll also have the Tenda answer some of the many 'belly up' questions that Pub patrons have pondered in the past. Finally, we will surf the Net in search of anything that can help our our fellow man. First up, a quote from an old drinking buddy... |
"Beer, for lack of a better word... is good" Paul Bretzger, 1988 |
Yeungling Lager Best when consumed 6 times This Pency Brew has been doing it longer than any other brewer in the USA. It is a nice middle ground beer. It's light enough to pound all day, but has a good little taste to it too. Some say it's too heavy and has a mild aftertaste, and like most is best when ice cold. Overall, this beverage will never be on tap at the Pub, since they changed their keg sizes. Too bad, as its a favorite of our best customers Jerry and Justiney. Bottle anyone? |
Yeungling Black and Tan Best when consumed 7 times This unique brew always goes down smooth, although you have to have the taste for dark lagers or you will not like it. For those of you that do, you know it is also a brewski you can make a day of. It offers a nice, mild taste found in much more expensive B&T's, and is a tad less heavy than those as well. Pound for pound ($ for $), it may be one of the finest American beverages in the land. |
Fosters Best when consumed 4 times One of the greatest exports from our friends "down-under", this Austrailian beer is a favorite of Whitey's Pub. Is it the "oil can" servings? The great commercials? Or is it that this beer packs a rich taste, after-taste free, and is light enough to pound all day? All of the above we say! |
Coors Light Best when consumed 10 times The right beer now, has seen it's popularity at the pub wain in recent months. Beer connoisseurs will argue that it's too watered down to be declared a malt beverage. Nobody will argue that this is the brew to have with you if you want to drink until tomorrow. Kudos to the folks in Golden, Colorado for developing the popular "30 Pack" a few summers back. |

We get a majority of our smokes from J&R Cigars, located in one of the Carolinas. You can check them out at the link below. At the Pub, we prefer smokes from the Dominican Repulic, or even Nicoragua. Cubans (the stoagies, not the guys) are what most people think are the best cigars, but I am often overwhelmed by a strong Cuban wrap (turn a greenish hue and comtemplate vomitting). Give me a nice $1.25 smoke and some good ventilation and I'll be as happy as a clam. Also, any stoagie that is fresh needs to be smoked, no matter the origin or price. |

"My ex dumped me a year ago, but she still calls me every couple of months to say she misses me. What's going on?" Lou Manigault, William and Mary College The wishy washy breakup artist, a classic. This is the type of girl that thinks she can do better than you, but when nothing else pans out figures she can always head back to the cow for a little free milk. As guys, we really don't care what the reason is. Sex is sex is sex, right? Well have some %#@* pride, will you?! At first act like everything is perfect, maybe be alittle distant (girls like guys that don't like them for whatever reason). When things start heating up again, get your revenge my man. Tell her you can't meet up to "talk" tonight, because you have to meet Sunshine after her shift at Delila's Den. Tell her you'll call her in the morning to let her know how things went, and if you got any- you know, girlie stuff. See if you can get a read from her. See if she gets a little distant. Then say, "I hope you're okay with this, afterall you're the one who left me, and only an ass would string a guy along, right"? One of life's simple little pleasures. Revenge. |
Guinness Stout Best when consumed "all day" The number one favorite of at least this Pubmaster, Guinness Stout is definitely an aquired taste. You never forget your first G. You never forget sticking your finger in the head and writing your intials in the foam (which is still legible at the bottom of the glass). This Pubmaster's first G came in Enfield, England- served room temperature. The stout can also be used to build other beverage products, including the favorite "black and tan", mixing it carefully with Harps, or an other heavy lager. As mentioned, good anytime of the day or night. |

"When betting the Kentucky Derby, can you give me some tips on what to look for, or should I just play the colors like my wife does? Joe Glickman, S. Jersey The Kentucky Derby, America's race. The most exciting two minutes in sports, and there are lots of angles you can take. Do you think your horse is the lone speed in the race, possibly capable of getting loose and lonely on the lead? Will you play a hot trainer or jockey, or even better yet, a hot T&J combo? Is your horse in it's best form, or will it "bounce" off it's last big effort and come up dull here? With a full field of 20 horses, its really a crapshoot. Factor in that none of these young atheletes will have ever experienced the crowds or noise they will on that first Saturday in May, to further complicates things. I personally look for horses who are climbing the form ladder, and who draw a post that will keep them out of trouble with their given running style. If you want a lock though, go with your wife's favorite colors. Even if your horse runs up the track, if you let her know this you're sure to score after the race. |
