2001-2002 Season Preview
Losses to:
Overage: Brad Voth, Jeremy Goetzinger, Vern Fiddler.
Expansion Draft: Tyson Mulock
Goal: Kyle Kettles '81 (?), Ben McMullin '83.
The Tigers have a solid #1 goaltender in Kettles and a good backup in McMullin. They could well be looking at making a run this year as the defence and goaltending should be solid. If McMullin can start out playing well, Kettles could possibly be dealt for some offensive help. Regardless, the Tigers should be just fine in goal.
Defence: B.J. Fehr '81 (?), Brett Schefflemaier '81 (?), Ryan Chieduch '82, Petr Chvojka '82, Ryan Olynyck '82,
Jay Bowmeester '83, Josh Morrow '83, Roly Rawlyk '83.
Bowmeester and company should form a solid defensive unit this season in front of some very capable goaltending. Schefflemaier is likely gone after being drafted again, but Chvojka, Bowmeester, Olynyck, Fehr and Morrow should form a pretty solid group. Look for Chieduch to be dealt out west....just a hunch. Tiger fans should have something to cheer about this year as good teams are built from the back end out, and the Tigers look to be solid out to the blue line.
Forwards: Ken Davis '81 (?), Brett Draney '81 (?), Denny Johnston '82, Ben Thomson '82, Ryan Hollweg '83,
Ryan Kinasewich, '83, Joffrey Lupul '83, Kyle Roth '83, Chris St.Jacques '83, Justin Taylor '83,
David Ullman '81 (?), Stefan Meyer '85, Ryley Day, Steven Regier.
Draney is signed and likely gone, and while his leadership will be missed the offence should be just fine. St. Jacques, Thomson, Hollweg and Lupul should all improve on their good point production of a year ago, and Bowmeester will likely chip in with 70+ points of his own. The size up front will allow the small, talented forwards to be creative and the Tigers could well be one of the biggest surprises of the 2001/2002 season. Keep your chins up Tiger fans, this will be an exciting year with more wins than losses!
Europeans: A goal scorer.
Overagers: Since Davis and Fehr are the only returnees that I'd count on, look for the Tigers to try and find a forward with size. If Draney returns it's a bonus, but I'd look for the Tigers to try and upgrade Davis if he doesn't score early.
