Brandon, Manitoba -- Randy Ponte has informed the
Brandon Wheat Kings that he plans to return for his fifth and final
Western
Hockey League season.
The Wheat Kings' all time leader in penalty minutes, the 20-year old
native
of Langley, British Columbia, who was the club's fourth round draft choice
in the '96 WHL bantam draft, had eight goals, 17 points and 283 minutes in
penalties this past season.
During the first four years of his WHL career, the three-time winner of
the
hockey club's Ollie Stark Trophy (Most Inspriational Player), has 67
points
including 28 goals in 237 games. As well, the 5'11" 200 lb. forward has
accumulated a franchise record 953 minutes in penalties.
Ponte's best season came during the '99-2000 campaign when he fired
fourteen
goals and added thirteen assists for 27 points in 66 games.

Veteran LW Randy Ponte recieved a surprise recently. The 5'11" Wheat Kings tough guy recieved an invite to attend the camp of the Nashville Predators this fall. He has accepted their invite, and will be attending the camp along with fellow teammate and, ironically, the other half of the Bruise Brothers, Jordin TooToo
