Dear Senator Lacson :

This letter is in response to your letter to Attorney General Ashcroft concerning information you have received indicating that you are being investigated by the United States Department of Justice relative to your alleged involvement in money laundering activities. The Attorney General has asked me to respond to your letter.

While I appreciate your concern about this matter, as a matter of policy the Department of Justice can neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation. This policy is set forth in section 1-7.530 of the United States Attorneys’ Manual. As a result of this policy, I am unable to respond Further to your letter.
