Stupid Report
by Amb Ernie Maceda

After months of waiting, the FBI finally sends a report to DOJ that Sen. Ping Lacson did have a bank account in the US that had a deposit of $200,000 (now closed) but nowhere near the $728 million that Victor Corpus, ISAFP chief, had reported or even the $50 million NBI Director Wycoco mentioned. With that kind of intelligence work, no wonder the AFP has lost ground against the NPA and the MILF.

But it is not only the ISAFP that looks pathetic, Secretary Nani Perez and NBI Director Reynaldo Wycoco who kept insisting that they had proof of Lacson's dollar deposits abroad certainly lost more credibility.

The best indication that DOJ Secretary Nani Perez has nothing on Sen. Ping Lacson is his refusal to release the FBI letter to media which should have been done as a matter of course.

It is pathetic that now the charges to be filed have gone down from money laundering to perjury.

How about NBI Director Reynaldo Wycoco now releasing his statement of assets and liabilities for the last five years, too? What's the value of his mansion in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija?

And Sen. Robert Barbers, a former police officer who kept announcing he was just waiting for the DOJ to submit the FBI report before he would finish his report? His sudden release of the report which was unfavorable against Ping Lacson on the date Sen. John Osmeņa bolted their group looked very much like he was the head of a lynching party. The report should have been released three months ago.

By the way, the Barbers report cannot be forwarded to the DOJ because it needs full Senate approval in a plenary session which looks very unlikely at this time. In fact, if the new Senate majority prevails, the Barbers report has been recommitted to the Committee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs now headed by Sen. Gringo Honasan.
