An Ordinary Battle

Among the trees and bushes scattered dear
Within a moonlit field of pansies near
A young girl dances, spinning slowly ‘round
Upon her head a wreath of daisies found
Gay eyes portray a laugh of sweet wisdom
Emanating from the setting sun’s gleam
Singing birds, roaming creatures, breezes stir
wakening hearts of those who choose to listen.
Beyond the mountains hidden cities rise,
Monstrous structures snarl at the answers
Of which the questions they don’t bother ask.
Apathetic giants tread on ants, and
kill the peace as nightfall crushes life. Thus,
When light and darkness meet chaos breaks loose
O’er the blackened city full moon’s rising,
Revealing hellish smirks and evil hands
That detonate crude bombs of poisonous lies
Into the depths of pure innocence now
under spiteful attack. Recoiling from
the wicked blow, armed stars shoot forth with speed
aimed at ignorant plastic hearts of fear.
The moon, a pitchfork, sets lost wills on fire,
Branding souls with hope. Brand names strike right back,
Unleashing toxic words into the sky.
Swords of wind and moonbeams set them straight, but
still they make their impotent attempts at
victory, of thrusting worthless money
at the man in the moon. He spits on it
with rage as lightning strikes and thunder roars,
dumping rain, rain, rain upon the city.
Paper bills, soggy and torn, clogged their minds.
Alas, the spirits strike once more. Clouds race
across the sky, encouraged by the sun’s
first rays. The air adrift with music, a
weakened town resorts to one last weapon
but to no avail, it fails. A triumphant
sun paints multitudes of color ‘cross
the earth. Young love emerges from behind
the shadows, smiling. In truth, the essence
of this battle vanished ‘fore it began.
