a jubilant dance in the rain

throw off your yellow rain slicker and bucket hat
kick off your galoshes
dance freely in the rain
let it soak right through your skin
feel it streaming down
hear the rhythm as it beats into the ground
run and jump and play
bare feet squishing in the mud and
splashing in the puddles
shake like a dog to rid the water from your body
but it does no use
it’s pouring down fast and cold
but who cares?
run and jump and play
wash the car, water the flowers
so refreshing
tastes of city smog
take off running, then soar
mud slides down hills
let’s stay out here in the rain all day
tilt your head back and catch the raindrops in your mouth
try to run between them without getting hit
raise your arms and face up to the sky in happiness
thank God for rain!
