Silence

Hear that?
It’s the sound silence makes.
Isn’t it deafening?
At first it’s just a calm quiet –
Then it begins pulsating in your ears.
It grows louder, and louder, and louder,
until...
Boom!
It’s the most deafening sound in the world.
It roars and screams out at you
Echoing long and deep, wide and far, to no end
And it taunts you
It dances around you in circles, jeering wickedly
It grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you violently
It whips around you, breathing down your spine
And just when you think you’ve escaped it,
it whispers in your ear...
“I’m still here.”
