The scenic route

Remember colouring outside the lines?

In times of sobriety – like telephone booths –
and sitting on roofs on Sundays
letting gravity keep us on our feet
we played follow-the-leader with idiosyncrasy.

Time is the evil of two lessers
(the other being cargo pants)
because those days spent giving into gravity
are what blew the dandelion seeds away.

Now they’re sitting in the toy box
underneath the Clark Kents
waiting to reinvent sobriety
with breath mints on their wings

So let’s use Superman capes to mark time
(instead of the zippers on our pockets)
and on our way stop by the scenic route
of ostenado Sundays on roofs.
