Rats

Rats originated in Southeast Asia.  Date of introduction was between 1870 and 1880.  It was accidentally introduced as stowaways on European ships.  The Rats were implicated in transmitting Leptospirosis and Murine Typhus to humans. They also preyed on native birds, bird eggs, insects, and snails.  They damaged Native trees such as Koa by stripping barks.
