So...my friends and I seem to inadvertantly go on a lot of "adventures". Most of these adventures are by accident, but hey - "You never know when you're making a memory" - so here goes...

July 22, 2000

In Wisconsin, county fairs are pretty big events. I was looking through the paper one day when I ran across some show listings for the Dane County Fair. PHAT PHUNKTION was going to play on July 22! So, I called Icks, and we decided we were going to go. I was pretty stoked, and she was too. I was also pretty sure I knew exactly how to get there, after my dad explained it to me (He made it sound so easy!!!), so we were ready to roll. I picked Sarah up at around 8:40 - the show started at 10, so I figured we'd have plenty of time.

Anyway, we get going, and we were actually a little ahead of schedule, so I thought we could stop in at Best Buy (I am *addicted* to that store) for a few minutes (I'm in the market for a new stereo). Well, that's where the trouble started, because then I just kind of shut off that "Let's Think About Where We're Driving" part of my brain. I mean, John Nolen Drive is easy enough to get to, right?

Well, not for this girlie. I was happily crusin' along, when about 20 minutes later, I say to Sarah "Shouldn't we have seen the sign for John Nolen already?" Sarah says "Yeah, but I can see how you might miss it. Let me put on my glasses." So now we think we're in business - two of us on the lookout for the sign, both now able to see clearly. No problem...until about 15 minutes later, when we're in Stoughton. Hmmm.

So, I turned off into Stoughton, because I know Stoughton and I know how to get back to Madison from there. It seems I was so preoccupied that I took the Interstate as opposed to the BeltLine (yes, those of you that know what I'm talking about have the right to laugh at me). Sucky.

Well, I drove us back into Madison, and thought it'd be a good idea to go down by campus, because I know they have signs to get to the Expo Center down around there. Except I decide to take a few roads I've never been on before, and we end up in Maple Bluff (By now, all of you that know where I'm talking about will probably be in hysterics, thinking "What kind of an idiot....?!?!"). I eventually get to where I know right where I am, so we're good to go.

After MAJOR detours, we're at the Fair. We walk in, feeling a little dumb because we're the only two walking INTO the place. Everyone else is leaving. Well, go figure - that happens when all the animal judging is over and the animals are already out of there and all the animal owners are ready to go home. So, we walk all over the parking lot, and finally decide to get my car.

We drove over to where all the rides were, and where we figured Phat Phunktion would be. After walking around for about 20 minutes, we kinda guessed that PP was done. Yeah - with all my wonderful detours, we missed them. Oh, well.

We were going to leave, when this guy yelled at us to come back. Having nothing else to really do, we went back. It was a guy that was running one of my favorite rides, so we went to talk to him. He was all "SO, my friend here says you were staring at him." And I said "Umm....no...." Guy: "Oh! It was me you were staring at?" Me: "Not that I remember...." He then turns to Sarah and says "It was you?" Sarah: "No." Then he asked us why we weren't riding, and I said we were going to get tickets for it.

So we went and got our tickets, and got on the ride (I should've talked the guy into letting us ride free. Oh well.). Every time we went by him, he yelled something. Boys are wierd.

After that, we decided to go on this other ride based on the movie Twister. It was pretty cool, and Sarah didn't get "Sick...as....a..dog", so that was good. After that, we left. It was still kind of early, so we decided to head back to the East side of Madison.

Any of you that know me know I'm always up for Cruisin the Wash - I'm a dork like that. So, that's what we did. It was fun, until I realized I had a flat. Suck. We pulled off the Square, and I was getting out my jack kit and the tire and everything - I was set to do this myself. Well, Sarah decided I needed help, so she yelled at some guy to come help us. When he walked up, he smelled like alcohol, so we were a little nervous. He ended up being really sweet and really nice, so it was all cool. His friend was another story.

So, the guy helped me change my tire, we gave each other a hard time, and he was off. Sarah and I decided to call it a night. Holy Lord...I could've done without the flat. The spontaneous trip to Stoughton was bad enough. Oh well - I'm sure this will be one of our "Do you remember that night....?!?" stories...

I'll be adding more as they happen and as I think of them, so hold your jets....or cool your horses - you decide. :)
