A Tribute to my hero, who I call Cargo Pants Guy This article is a tribute to the unsung hero of Colombo Street and the Cathedral Square.....Cargo Pants Guy. Before you can fully appreciate the wonder of this heroic man, I must first tell you some back story. I first noticed Cargo Pants Guy (Heretoforthwiththusly to be known as CPG) wandering along Colombo St about a year and a half ago. Most people would simply glance at this fine man and notice nothing special. But I have an eye for heroes, and I instantly recognized in him many fine qualities. To paint a picture for you of what a fine specimen CPG really is, i'll give you a detailed description of his appearance. Imagine if you will a man in his late 50's, pot belly, long flowing locks of graying hair surrounding a shining bald patch. CPG always wears cargo pants. Back when I first saw him, he always wore a light brown coloured pair, but about 6 months ago he bought a new pair of off-white cargos, most probably from Hallensteins, that he has been sporting around town. To go along with these sturdy pants, he always wears sneakers. Back in the day, nearly every time I saw him wandering around town he would be accompanying this fine ensemble with a white tank-top which would show off his magnificently hairy shoulders, but lately he seems to have refined his fashion sense a bit and can regularly be seen wearing shirts, both denim and hawaiian. As a visual reference, I have prepared this picture of the late actor Denholm Elliott, who CPG looks a bit like. Just imagine him with longer hair and a bald patch. CPG is a social creature, evident by the fact that I see him wandering around town on such a regular basis. I believe he does this to keep in touch with his public. For what is a hero without his public to worship and adore him? I for one would like to thank CPG for being such an inspiration to me. I dont know where i'd be today without him to guide me. I propose the founding of a group, some might say cult, in honour of this Man Among Men. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, please send them to me at big__poppa__p@hotmail.com . I'll be sure to take them into consideration. Cargo Pants Guy, we salute you!! - Pete |
