This is one of the first major concerts with the new "Full House" line-up:
Fairport Convention with a "heavier" sound. The balance between spirited jigs and reels, and
four-square rock back beats, is underlined by the fiery exchanges traded by guitarists Thompson
and Nicol, fiddler Swarbrick and the exceptional rhythm section Pegg and Mattacks,. Explaining
why many regard this as Fairport’s strongest line-up. This recording is full of energy and
inspiration. The songs are still fresh to the band and they really love to play them. To me
Fairport Convention never have sounded better!
I made this recording on a cassette - the tape is almost 35 years old! There are some flutter and
drop-outs. It's a large hall. The sound isn't hi-fi....
But turn up the volume, have a few pints, close your eyes and open your ears and you are back at
Royal Festival Hall with one of the greatest bands ever!
