There Is A Sadness In the Silence

There is a Sadness in the Silence
of words unspoken
and dreams unrealized
of yesterdays gone
and tomorrows not coming
life moving about you
through you
around you
never with you
wanting to connect
needing to be seen
heard
felt
touched
believed

but there is a sadness in the silence
of a world ending
and a life beginning
of new trouble
and old heartache
of love never ending
yet never realized

the person in the mirror cries
while the person without does not
for the world turns
and the moon is new
and the tide comes and goes at will
forever is not as it was
never is not as it will be

and there is a sadness in the silence
as the words echo off empty walls
and through vacant lots
with no one to hear
is there a sound spoken
or has the vastness of life
swallowed it whole
and left it hanging to dry
by the side of the road
never questioning
where it came from
where it is going
or why

there is a sadness in the silence
and the beating of a still heart
sings through the thoughts
of a still mind
as a soul sets itself free
from a prison unseen
and flies forth
on a journey unmapped
to a destination unknown

because there is a sadness in the silence
yearning to be broken
seeking to be heard
longing to love and laugh
aching to cry and sing

but there is a sadness in the silence
