Christian Science

Christian Science is a cult within Christianity founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1875 in Boston, Massachusetts.  Followers of the movement differ from tradtional Christian teachings in that they teach that Christ is more of a state of perfection.  They teach that Jesus was simply an example of this sate of perfection and that each individual has the power to realize this state.  They deny both the death of Jesus on the cross and his bodily resurrection.  This comes in part because they do not believe in death, sickness, evil, nor sin.  Rather, they sayy that these are all illusions.  They teach that the Holy Spirit is more of an impersonal power and that Hod himself is also impersonal.  They also believe that heaven and hell are simply just sates of mind rather than actual places.  They teach that the way to reach heaven is through oneness with God.  Instead of doctors, followers of the movement will see a Christian Science practitioner.  The members also belief that matter is an illusion that we think we see.  Followers of the movement use as their scriptures Science and Health with key to the Scriptures, the Manual of the Mother Church, and selected Bible passages.  Other key writings that are used by Christian Scientists are the Christian Science Journal, and the Christiona Science Sentinel.  The movement stresses the principles of life, truth, love, intelligence, and spirit.
